Description
The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Area Maintenance Division seeks an experienced Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker to perform general park maintenance and skilled Janitorial work involving moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidate will perform a variety of maintenance tasks such as routine custodial care, specialized custodial care, light trade work, and general grounds maintenance. Responsibilities include the housekeeping and facility maintenance of the new multi-generational center in Brandywine, Maryland. This is park/general maintenance work at the experienced level, involving the operation of most custodial equipment and specialized floor care equipment. This position requires a self-starter who can work effectively with a variety of staff along with providing excellent customer service to the public.
Hiring range is $42,135-$58,379 with a growth potential to $74,625.00

Examples of Important Duties
- Provide leadership, supervision, and training of less experienced staff
- Provide daily routine custodial care for office spaces, bathrooms, lobby areas, training rooms, and sensitive equipment rooms.
- Provide good customer service to facility staff and visitors.
- Strip, wax, and buff floors; shampoo carpets; scrub ceramic tile areas; dust high areas.
- Provide general repairs to buildings using light trade skills that do not require a license, such as installing dispensers, replacing light bulbs, changing outdoor hardware, installing furniture and equipment, etc.
- Provide leadership and training to less experienced staff as assigned.
- Provide basic plumbing services, such as plunging clogs, changing out batteries on automatic flushers, and checking for non-functioning plumbing equipment.
- Clean and provide general repairs to stoves, ovens, and microwave ovens; inspect for functioning heat and AC as appropriate.
- Maintain Inventory control of equipment (tables and chairs) and custodial supplies.
- Report maintenance issues to proper staff and maintain communication with
- Seasonally, they provide specialized cleanings such as power washing walls, sidewalks, and building exteriors.
- Blow leaves and pick up trash from around centers daily.
- Provides storm damage cleanup from severe thunderstorms, flood events, and snow events.
- Assists building users in setting up and tearing down tables and seating arrangements for large meetings and training sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.
- Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
