We have a limited number of summer positions.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), a six-time National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner, is currently seeking enthusiastic applicants who enjoy working with preschoolers, school-age children, teens and young adults to be Summer Program Administrators in inclusive camp settings (including campers with and without disabilities). M-NCPPC is a bi-county agency serving a diverse population of approximately 2 million residents within Montgomery and Prince George's County.
Summer recreation jobs offer invaluable skill-building, leadership, training, and enrichment opportunities. Recreation work experiences allow you to learn and develop management and personnel skills which can enhance your job marketability. M-NCPPC will offer a large variety of summer programs which include in-person specialty camps, in-person playground programs, in-person therapeutic recreation programs, and virtual clubhouses.
Examples of Important Duties
Candidates’ responsibilities will include day to day supervision of summer program participants ranging in ages 6-17 some of whom may have disabilities. Summer Program Administrators have oversight of all paperwork and reference books. Administer the Youth Camp Safety Standards for the program site ensuring profile forms for participants, staff and volunteers are complete and ready for review. The Administrator will contact parents to obtain missing information, documents weekly fire and emergency evacuation drills. The Administrator keeps registration rosters, attendance sheets and sign in logs, and maintains the health log.
Administrators collect field trip money, complete rosters, trip/transportation emergency plans, assist with transportation logistics, and maintain the Youth Camp Safety Standard trip book. Secures petty cash funds and tracks petty cash expenditures (if applicable). The Administrator is responsible for daily cash drops at designated facilities. Supports site Director with supervision of volunteers. Administrators will complete weekly reports, to include attendance, custodial, financial, accident, property damage and staff timecards. The Administrator is the point of contact to parents for emergencies. The Administrator will post site plans near the phones and the emergency evaluation map in order to ensure the safety of all participants, staff and volunteers during a natural disaster. Assists with the coordination of food service program. Administrators are responsible for establishing and maintaining good rapport with participants, parents, and other staff. Responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of participants.
They will be responsible for enforcing all M-NCPPC rules and regulations and compliance of Youth Camp Safety Standards. They will participate in inventory control and distribute equipment and supplies to participants. Acts as a Senior Counselor when administrative duties are completed for the day. Since this is a summer only position, there is no paid vacation or holiday leave; sick leave is granted on an accrual basis. All summer program staff are required to attend pre-service training, Youth Camp Safety Standards training, food service training (where applicable), and obtain a CPR and First Aid certification prior to the beginning of camp.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess at 1 year of experience with youth in the field of parks and recreation, physical education, childcare or a related field and 1 year of college. Candidates must be 18 years of age.
