Description

The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), a six-time National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner, is currently seeking a highly motivated, customer service-oriented team player to serve as a Supplier Diversity and Inclusion Outreach Specialist within the Department of Human Resources and Management (DHRM). Under the direction of the Supplier Diversity and Inclusion Chief, the successful candidate will develop, promote, and manage community events and programs that enrich MNCPPC’s reputation, educate customers about key initiatives, and enhance the Commission’s image in the community with internal and external stakeholders.


This individual is responsible for ongoing program review, developing outreach’s strategic priorities, devising and measuring the community outreach metrics, recommending changes, and working with Corporate Procurement Services to promote the work of MNCPPC in the community. Examples of Important Duties

  • Works to strengthen community engagement by developing, planning, and managing events that align with MNCPPC’s priorities and highlight the Commission’s commitment to community investment.

  • Uses events as tools for communication and education to promote key messages and initiatives and engage essential stakeholders.

  • Focuses on reaching and engaging disadvantaged communities, with particular attention paid to non-profits and key equity and environmental justice stakeholders.

  • Establishes strategic priorities to define MNCPPC’s community outreach and engagement efforts while recommending outreach opportunities.

  • Collaborates with external organizations on events that support MNCPPC’s operations or enhance its reputation.

  • Benchmarks best practices for the outreach and engagement program, collecting data, metrics, and periodic reports to evaluate its effectiveness. Develops and implements an annual outreach strategy while managing the schedule and budget.

  • Represents the organization in public speaking engagements related to community outreach and engagement.

  • Works with the communications team on event concepts, graphic design, production, printing, and event marketing.

  • Attends networking events to build and maintain relationships with key community partners and stakeholders and to leverage best practices.

  • Develops and manages an annual calendar of events and community outreach activities.

  • Collaborates with leadership on strategic priorities, metrics development, and reporting.

  • Manages multiple concurrent events, creating event plans that include timelines, agendas, costs, task lists, volunteer/employee time commitments, and intended goals/outcomes.

  • Defines success criteria for events, evaluates them based on established standards, and provides management with post-event Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.

  • Conducts research and negotiates contracts to define logistics, required permits, support, quality, and branding expectations.

  • Informs MNCPPC employees and external organizations about opportunities to participate in events and projects.

  • Works closely with various departments to recruit and manage volunteers and oversees staff and volunteers at events.

  • Leads customer outreach initiatives, including surveys and focus groups.

  • Able to attend meetings or perform other assignments at external locations as needed.

  • Willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required.

  • Prepared to assist with community engagement efforts in emergencies, as necessary.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills, including strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to problem-solve, set priorities, multi-task, adapt to frequent conflicts/changes in priorities and unexpected events, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office apps such as Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Passionate for creating engaging work environments and energizing people.
  • Excellent presentation and written communication skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment and deal tactfully, effectively, and equitably with people.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging presentations in various settings and adapt presentations to meet the challenges of each setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media such as, but not limited to, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc., in a work/professional capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Finance, Business or any related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in human resource management,finance or any other related field of business administration.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 6 years.
