The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission seeks a Lead Teacher Child Care Aide responsible for leading an accredited child development program. Under close supervision, childcare work involves moderate responsibility, complexity, and variety. The ideal incumbent must work well with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families.  He or she will assist with implementing an approved child development curriculum in a classroom situation. Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus (external candidates only)

Prepares and implements classroom programs that follow the goals and philosophy of the Center.

  • Prepare lesson plans at least two weeks before and post them daily within the classroom.
  • Request materials and supplies necessary for program development promptly.
  • Encourage classroom aides' input into curriculum development and satisfactorily assign them specific duties.


Interacts positively with all children and their parents and staff

  • Foster appropriate family/child/staff relationships.
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline practices.
  • Encourage children’s involvement in activities.
  • Write appropriate progress reports and conduct parent conferences as required.
  • Coordinate peer coaching sessions and participated in coaching reviews.


Supports quality management of all classrooms involved in the care of infants/toddlers/preschool children:

  • Assist staff in implementing curriculum content via planning, coaching, purchasing supplies, and coordinating staff efforts.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and evaluating special events, such as field trips and seasonal activities.
  • Assist in staff development and training opportunities.


Supports the re-licensing process by complying with childcare State standards (COMAR 07.04.02):

  • Assist staff members with any environmental, educational, and/or childcare issues as required by MSDE/ OCC.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate staff and child records as required by MSDE.
  • Serve as the Orientation Coordinator for all new staff and assist in the signed orientation reviews.
  • Attend six hours of accredited training for childcare administrators as required by MSDE/ OCC.


Supports the record-keeping/filing procedures established by the Commission, Division, or Center:

  • Assist in collecting, reviewing, and forwarding administrative items not requiring the supervisor’s approval.
  • Assist in completing Cash Reports and Petty Cash reimbursement each month by established regulations and monthly newsletters and reports according to established deadlines.
  • Assist with tuition collection and other administrative duties requiring communication with parents.
  • Coordinate minutes and follow-up items from staff meetings.


Supports the health and safety standards set by regulation and by Center policy:

  • Ensure a caring and safe environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing and that permits children to grow and explore.
  • Help enforce written health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Report any environmental health/safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Assist in keeping accurate, daily accident/incident logs.
  • Assist in assigning staffing patterns and substitutes meeting mandated MSDE/OCC ratios.
  • Adhere to all OCC-MSDE/M-NCPPC/Center regulations, policies, and practices.
  1. 20 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  3. In accordance with the Code of Maryland (COMAR) 13A.16, Childcare Centers meet the requirements for childcare teachers in preschool centers.
  4. Pass Commission medical examination.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. One year of experience under supervision working with a group of children in a licensed early childhood program or has successfully completed one year of study in an accredited institution of higher learning or an equivalent of one year as approved by the Department of Human Resources, Code of Maryland Regulations 07.04.02 - Child Care Center Licensing.
  2. Successfully completed twelve clock hours of approved continued training every year.
  3. Successfully pass a medical examination based upon Maryland State Department of Education medical standards for childcare employees, to be administered by a Commission-approved physician prior to appointment.
  4. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret instructions and maintain routine records. 8. Be of good moral character as determined by a background investigation in conformance with Maryland state law.
