If this sounds like you, the Montgomery County Department of Parks – Athletic Field team located in the Southern Parks Division is the place you want to be! We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual to fill the role of Senior Equipment Operator.
The Southern Parks Division meets both local and regional leisure needs by providing opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities in the most densely populated areas of Montgomery County. The division manages over 200 parks, including Urban, Local, and Regional Parks. These parks employ almost 200 employees and include over 100 pieces of equipment to accomplish the Department’s mission. The Athletic Field Program is a highly energetic and qualified team focused on athletic field improvements. Reporting directly to the Park Manager, the Senior Equipment Operator will lead the Montgomery County Athletics Field Team in ensuring that the best sports fields are available for use.

Knowledge:
- Heavy equipment operation
- Maintenance and repair of heavy and power-driven equipment
- New methods and techniques of operation and the parts of the equipment
- Workplace safety practices
- Both manual and electronic operations
- Maryland Department of Transportation regulations and procedures for safe transportation of large vehicles and equipment on public roadways.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive and operate large trucks and trailers for equipment/material mobilization.
- Perform laser grading, equipment hauling, and turf maintenance/renovation equipment such as large aerators, top dressers, large soil improvement equipment, excavators, etc.
- Respond to signals and directions by the staff and work in coordination with them.
- Applies soil improvement products for improved soil health, turf nutrient applications, and pesticides.
- Maintain proper coordination and cooperation with the road and transport system while driving/working, so that normal activities are not disrupted.
- Operate the equipment manually and by electronic or technical methods of operation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years of landscape, turfgrass, soils, or other green industry experience.
- Maryland Certified Fertilizer Applicator.
- Maryland Certified Pesticide Applicator (Category 3C).
- Strong Oral and Written Communication Skills
- High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
- Three years of equipment operation, including a minimum of one year of experience using heavy equipment.
- Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements at time of employment. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
- Successfully pass Commission medical examination.
