What are the responsibilities and job description for the Painter II (12208, Grade HT4) position at The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission?
The hiring range for this position will be $47,419.00-65,701.00 (with growth potential to the top of the grade, currently $83,983.00), based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

At that time, a new job posting may be available for application to future openingsThe incumbent in this position must be able to:
- Receives work orders for painting projects; reviews work orders to determine the appropriate color, type of coating, equipment, materials, and methods required to complete tasks. Inspects and troubleshoots buildings and structures for damage and necessary repairs; recommends corrective actions and prepares repair estimates. Contacts inspectors to schedule inspections of projects.
- Performs difficult painting and wall covering work to maintain or build new Commission structures, parking lots, paths, wood play structures, wood decks, and other unique structures such as historical buildings. Uses a variety of manual and power painting tools to perform major painting projects; prepares areas prior to painting. Tints, tones, matches, blends, and mixes coating materials to match colors or blend additives; ensures coating finish meets match, texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements. Performs glazing; measures, cuts, and replaces glass. Apply putty and caulking to seal cracks.
- Completes required administrative paperwork and keeps records of work performed.
- Maintains inventory and assigns power equipment, tools, safety equipment, and vehicles to crew; makes purchases and checks invoices to ensure materials are received and delivered.
- Assigns, trains, and checks work of other Painters, Trades Apprentices, and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support skilled trades workers; provides instructions and assists with training on proper procedures, trade methods, and safety.
- Drives motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to job sites; loads and unloads trucks of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials. Sets up tools and equipment for safe operation at work sites; provides routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Follow instructions and proper procedure, trade methods, and safety.
- Operate light construction equipment. Such as forklifts, skid loaders, aerial lifts, and scaffolding
- High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED)
- Completion of an approved painting apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible painting experience.
- Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
- Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
- Driver's licenses must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment. Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) witappropriate endorsements may be required.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
Working Conditions:
Occasionally performs work indoors and outdoors; exposure to varied weather conditions, confined spaces, heights, dirt, noise, vibrations, dust, and fumes, as well as wildlife and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.). This position will occasionally remain in a stationary position, move about inside the office and outside, operate vehicles, tools, and equipment, ascend and descend ladders and stairs, position oneself to complete manual work, and move equipment, tools, and objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
