What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patuxent Rural Life Museums - Museum Education/Program Aide position at The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission?
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural and Historic Resources Division is currently seeking a seasonal Museum Education/Program Specialist to provide interpretive tours for the Patuxent Rural Life Museums at Patuxent River Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The museums’ hours are weekends Saturdays and Sundays 1:00 p.m. – 4: 00 p.m., April 1st through October 31st. Other work assignments include program preparation for opening of museum buildings and artifact maintenance, as well as preservation and storage for seasonal closing down. This position is seasonal March – November.
Position Pay rate - $16/hr. Saturday and Sunday 12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Present and interpret late 19th Century and early 20th Century rural life, of Southern Maryland and the Patuxent River.
Assist Park Naturalist in conducting other programs and special events, for public and private groups.
Assist with maintaining and inventorying of artifacts.
Help maintain and clean museums for presentations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Good Working knowledge of rural life in the Mid-Atlantic for 19th/20th century
Proven ability to excel in verbal communication, take direction, be a team player, flexibility to multitask and maintain stability under pressure.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service, inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
Good interpretative skills
Working Conditions
Ability to work onsite/in person with staff, volunteers, and the public.
Ability to regularly move between the museums, visitor center, and grounds.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time, in cool and hot/humid conditions
A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
