The HIV/STI Prevention and Outreach Specialist will collaborate with community partners to offer disease prevention services. Project staff will implement targeted education and outreach efforts to identify and engage people who use drugs (PWUD), with an emphasis on individuals whose social determinants of health typically reduce access to care, placing them at high risk of substance use disorders (SUD), drug-related infectious diseases, and/or overdose.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver mobile, targeted, specialized testing services aimed at participants with substance use disorders. Provide on-the-spot disease prevention strategies by screening for HIV, Hepatitis C, and other STIs.
- Provide rapid access and linkage to HIV care for SUD participants with reactive HIV test results who are not currently in care.
- Educate participants on infectious disease prevention practices and harm reduction strategies to reduce the risk of drug-related overdose.
- Operate mobile outreach services for a minimum of 18 hours per week.
- Collect, store, and manage program data.
- Maintain an emotional and physically safe working environment.
- Responsible for communicating to supervisor and team all safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Participate in the Florida Harm Reduction Collective state regional meetings.
- Availability to work some evening and weekends.
- Weekly availability to provide in-house scheduled tester.
- Participate in community coalition/groups relevant to role.
- Provide HIV/HEP C routine education to stand in Community partners when necessary.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field preferred
· Knowledge of HCV/HIV and STIs, and behavioral health
· Understanding of Harm Reduction Models and Best Practices in the state of Florida
· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen and offer solutions without judgment
· Ability to be client and mission centered
· Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
· Ability to maintain highly confidential information in a professional manner (in accordance with federal HIPAA and 42CFR part 2 regulations)
· Ability to work with others in a team and collaboration efforts
· Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Share Point and Excel
· Clear driving record and valid driver’s license with solid driving skills; willing and able to use McGregor vehicle for outreach and proof of insurance
· Familiarity with the social, cultural and economic make-up of Lee County and ability and willingness to work with diverse populations
· Preferred: Bilingual, English and Spanish
Americans with Disabilities Specifications: The position is a combination of outdoor and indoor setting, some work out of a motor vehicle, requiring periods of standing and walking in and out of a vehicle. This position also requires some sitting at a desk in front of a computer. Presentation and community outreach tasks may require the employee to sit or stand for long periods of time. Travel, typically by van; must be comfortable driving on unpaved/uneven roads and in inclement weather, during sunrise/sunset and in the dark. Requires the ability to safely lift 30 pounds unassisted.
