Current license as a registered professional nurse in the State of Ohio and two years general nursing experience. Satisfactorily passing of physical examination and T.B. testing to be updated as necessary according to the needs of the facility. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required. Erie County residency preferred.

Description of the Job:
Under general supervision is responsible for performing direct professional nursing and emergency care; functionally supervise LPN charge nurses and nurses aides; performs other related duties as required.
Job Duties:
- Performs direct professional patient nursing care; assists physicians with examinations and medical treatments; sets up and administers medications; gives immunizations; performs emergency first aid; administers treatment; and procedures such as skin care; tube feedings; catheterizing; changing sterile dressings; takes and interprets vital signs; evaluates new admissions.
- Supervises other staff in the absence of the Director of Nursing or according to shift assignment; may assign duties to LPN Charge Nurses and Nurse Aides; may assist with orientation and training; instructs and reviews the work of others; evaluates employees work performance and recommends disciplinary procedures; may contact additional employees or charge work assignments for coverage according to staffing needs; may functionally supervise staff in other departments.
- Conducts sick call; makes rounds in facility; observes patients for change in condition or activity; communicates with residents, family or friends, medical personnel, supervisor, or other staff to determine client’s plan of care, including medical, physical and mental activities; establishes and maintains friendly and relaxed atmosphere; encourages and supports residents in acquiring basic skills for independent functioning.
- Performs daily charting of patient’s activity and condition; updates records and patient care plans; gathers medical data and compiles into summaries; complete other daily medical and incident reports; maintains records; prepares and submits various written reports and forms.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment; cleans and replaces equipment; orders medications; takes medical inventory; reports needed repairs or replacement of equipment to proper personnel.
- May transport patients within facility; may feed, put patients to bed, turn and position patients to perform passive exercise for patients.
- May perform the duties of a Charge Nurse in cases of absence.
- Follows safety procedures and observes patients to prevent self-injury or injury to others.
- Schedules appointment with consulting physicians as needed.
- Prepares laboratory slips; draws blood as needed; assists lab technicians.
- Communicates pertinent information to Director of Nursing Services and to Supervisor of following shift.
- Checks cluster for cleanliness, safety practices and overall nursing care being given.
- May be responsible for locking or unlocking doors according to shift assignment.
- Assigns break times.
- Attends in-service and staff meetings.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current license as a registered professional nurse in the State of Ohio and two years general nursing experience.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice; knowledge of supervision; knowledge of employee training and development; ability to instruct and supervise; ability to work in sometimes stressful situations.
- Ability to gather facts, draw valid conclusions and take appropriate action; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to maintain records.
- Ability to motivate employees and residents; ability to represent the institution to patient’s families and deal with their questions and concerns.
- Ability to keep information confidential; ability to set priorities and to be flexible.
- Ability to deal with physically and mentally handicapped residents effectively.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, subordinates, patients and the general public.
- Skill in supervision; skill in the use of medical instruments and equipment; skill in performing professional nursing procedures.
- Satisfactorily passing of physical examination and T.B. testing to be updated as necessary according to the needs of the facility.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Erie County residency preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Alternate frequently between sitting/standing/walking throughout an eight (8) hour workday.
- Lift/carry a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
- Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
- Push/pull with twenty (20) pounds of initial force.
- Climb onto stepladder (2 steps).
- Bend/squat/crouch/kneel.
Salary:
- $30.22/hour after Probationary Period
- Shift differentials if applicable
