Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Assistant/Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Melrose Vet. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of animals in our care and supporting our veterinary staff with various tasks. The ideal candidate will have a love for animals, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animal Care: Provide daily care for animals in the kennel, including feeding, grooming, exercising, and cleaning living areas. Monitor animals for signs of illness or distress and report any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Assist with Veterinary Procedures: Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures. Assist with handling and restraining animals as needed.
- Client Interaction: Greet and assist clients with check-ins, check-outs, and scheduling. Provide information and answer questions regarding their pets’ care.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of animal care, treatments, and medications. Assist with inventory management of supplies and medications.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure that the kennel and related areas are clean, safe, and well-organized. Follow protocols for sanitation and hygiene.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with animals in a kennel or veterinary setting is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior, health, and common medical conditions is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a team and communicate with clients.
- Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment as needed, and to perform physical tasks related to animal care.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Desirable Skills:
- Proficiency in handling and restraining animals safely.
- Experience with basic veterinary equipment and procedures.
Pay and Benefits:
- Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
