What are the responsibilities and job description for the Charge Nurse (Days), Adolescent Treatment Unit position at The Menninger Clinic?
3 to 4 shifts per week
Key Functions
1. Provide leadership in delivery of nursing care on the assigned program
a. Create and maintain a work climate that encourages positive nursing staff morale, motivation and commitment
b. Role model effective interdisciplinary collaboration
c. Provide effective supervision of staff nurses and mental health associates
d. Apply principles of effective team functioning
e. Coach and mentor staff
f. Participate in performance evaluations
g. Support and participate in shared governance
h. Facilitates educational and orientation experiences
i. Makes budgetary recommendations to nurse manager regarding operational needs for the unit, including management of overtime and supplies
2. Exhibit leadership in professional practice
a. Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning
b. Maintain active participation in professional organization
c. Insure current clinical knowledge and application to patient care
d. Interprets unit acuity and adjusts patient care and staffing as needed; utilizes staffing advisory committee as guide
e. Assures effective written and verbal shift communication
f. Fosters staff development
g. Utilization of informatics for information management and technology
Education Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
License/Certification:
Current license to practice as RN in State of Texas
Certification in Psychiatric Mental health nursing within one year of hire or eligibility to take exam.
Experience:
Two or more years of experience as a psychiatric staff nurse.
