The Mental Health Association in Jefferson County, Inc. (MHAJC) is a non-profit peer-to-peer agency. MHAJC has been committed to providing individualized services in a community-based setting that promotes recovery, dignity, personal growth, self-determination, and health for those with a mental health diagnosis.
MHAJC is looking for an Engagement Staff to be responsible for promoting mental health recovery and wellness through education, support, and empowerment of our members.
Duties and responsibilities
· Responsible for Drop-In-Center and Bridges programs while engaging all members through organized activities, open communication, and assistance.
· Encourage clubhouse work units, assist with rides to and from the center, assist members as directed, and provide support to all the MHAJC programs and projects as directed.
· Set positive examples for members by maintaining a motivated, open-minded, patient, and positive attitude. In addition, must be assertive and able to engage with diverse populations to empower members through the recovery process.
· Must be able to teach members new skills and/or build on existing skills.
· Encourage members to organize stimulating activities that will improve life skills, social skills, and overall wellness.
· Supporting members in leading activities such as artwork/crafts, gardening, and exercise in addition to planning recovery-oriented events.
· Empowering members to learn and hone employment skills so they may obtain competitive employment.
· Engagement staff may be assigned to special projects, such as Food for Thought, Adopting Healthy Habits, etc. The assigned Engagement Staff will be responsible for meeting the goals and completing reports to fulfil all funding requirements for special projects.
· Demonstrate proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Publishing) to create organization event calendar and outreach materials as needed.
· Use effective time management skills to balance job tasks.
· Must be comfortable with handling conflict and utilizing appropriate resolution skills.
· Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
High School Diploma
Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Submit to a background check

Be a role model of recovery to our member
Submit to all appropriate background checks as designated by local State and Government Agencies.
Ability to multitask tasks given by supervisor
Working conditions
This position will work in an office-based setting and come in regular contact with our members.
Physical requirements
This position will require bending and some lifting in addition to regular movement in the Drop-in Center (main location).
