Job purpose
The Mental Health Association in Jefferson County, Inc. (MHAJC) is a non-profit peer-to-peer agency. MHAJC has been committed to providing individualized services in a community-based setting that promotes recovery, dignity, personal growth, self-determination, and health for those with a mental health diagnosis.

MHAJC is looking for a Veteran Advocate to provide support to the PFC Dwyer Peer to Peer Support Project under the direction of the Program Supervisor. This position will be required to travel to St. Lawrence County as needed (agency vehicle available).
PFC Dwyer Peer to Peer Support Project Mission: The PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer to Peer Support Program is a Drop-in; Non-Clinical, Community based Outreach Center. Our staff and trained volunteers provide advocacy, resources, and support with life’s circumstance to all our Veterans of all Eras regardless of discharge status.
Duties and responsibilities
· Ability to utilize and promote problem solving and decision-making skill development.
· Assist clients with support and connections to community resources in addition to providing advice on empowerment skills and successful community living.
· Willing to demonstrate progress towards Peer Certification If you identify as a peer become, within a given timeframe, a Certified Peer Specialist based on “The Shared Persona Experience” paradigm at (http://nypeerspecialist.org/)
· Participate in supervision, team meetings, trainings, and other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
· Adhere to HIPPA privacy regulations.
· Conduct outreach activities in the community, including street outreach.
· Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
High School Diploma required.
Veteran experience preferred.
Will be required to drive to St. Lawrence Counties (Agency vehicles to utilize) as needed.
A clean driver’s license.
Must have strong communication and written skills.
Must have the ability to be sensitive to persons with mental health illness.
Organized and detail oriented.
Problem solver
Skill in multi-tasking.
Basic in office software such as: Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet.
Must pass the appropriate background checks and fingerprinting.
Working conditions
This position will work in an office-based setting and come in regular contact with our members.
Physical requirements
This position will require bending and some lifting in addition to regular movement in addition to being able to operate a vehicle and transport clients as needed.
