What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Teacher position at The Meraki Center?
We are seeking a creative individual to provide in-person, music lessons at The Meraki Center, located in Oxford, MA. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to instruct students aged 5 years to adult, with beginner to intermediete skills. Group instruction (containing up to 6 students) will be required, using a set method (we will train). The initial time requirement is approximately 10 hours weekly, so the candidate ideally lives close by and would be able to work 2-4 hours per scheduled day. Applicants must have a reliable mode of transportation, exhibit a strong work ethic, and maintain an exceptional employment record. We are not looking for a diploma and loads of recordings and performances (though those are fine, of course). We are looking for hard-working, talented individuals who want to support music education in a community program. If you happen to also be a music therapist - all the better, but not required!
The candidate we seek possesses a range of qualifications, including a minimum of 6 months of music experience (any instrument) and at minimum, an intermediate-level proficiency in piano - guitar and voice are a plus (and other intstruments an awesome add-on). A comprehensive knowledge of music is REQUIRED. Additional qualifications, such as a sense of humor and an understanding of how people learn, make the job quite fun and enjoyable for everyone. The successful candidate should have a creative and innovative approach to teaching, while maintaining a professional demeanor and ability to set appropriate behavioral boundaries. We welcome staff from around the world, but require the ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor those with work VISAs.
We start with a Zoom interview for those who have the required qualifications. Following this initial stage, successful candidates will be invited to co-lead an in-person group lesson with the Director at the studio in Oxford, MA.
