What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Inspector position at The Metalworking Group?
MWG is looking to add a Quality Inspector to our Pippin Rd location!
JOB SUMMARY: Perform mechanical inspection and check, utilizing prescribed methods, techniques and standardized inspection instruments and testing devices to inspect units and sub-assemblies for tolerances, finish requirements and operating quality where skills, techniques and knowledge of inspection procedures may be acquired by on-the-job training and experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and understand blueprints and customer specifications.
- Follows standard procedures.
- Performs inspections and understands welding criteria.
- Determines inspection procedure to ensure complete verification of specifications and dimensions. Obtains necessary fixtures, gauges, and indicators to check machine parts for compliance with specifications, within prescribed tolerances. Completes assurance checklist during the process.
- Verifies identification of part and supplier (internal or outside supplier). Performs inspection procedures including checking dimensions of related surfaces, holes, etc., as well as assessment of finish and hardness and detection of cracks or other defects.
- Perform inspection on critical components, tools, jigs, fixtures and gauging devices; inspect and set adjustable inspection instruments and tools to read-out precisely.
- Applies same procedures to machine parts manufactured by outside suppliers. Contacts supplier representative on questionable items.
- Rejects unacceptable items and instructs suppliers to pick these up from plant quarantine area.
- Checks salvage possibilities of items outside specification limits and recommends reworking where possible. Otherwise, disposes rejected items. Notifies supervisor of incorrect machining or fabricating trends.
- Assist to resolve day-to-day inspection problems having to do with inspection methods and devices.
- Completes all necessary paperwork required by customers, including but not limited to, bubbled drawings, data sheets, PPAP packages or customer specific forms.
- Communicates with customers as needed.
- CMM use and programming experience preferred.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally, stand for the entire shift, bend, squat, twist and turn.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience:
- Stable work history
- Dexterity and preciseness required to operate gauges and testing equipment.
- Experience with utilizing measuring equipment
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Licensures and Certifications: None
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
