Biweekly Hours : 80.00

Shift : M-F 7 : 30am 4 pm

Summary :

Provides intermediate support services to a varying range of medical and imaging equipment and related systems for departments throughout The MetroHealth System with a focus on technical, complex, and sophisticated equipment. Troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and verifies the performance of medical imaging equipment including, but not limited to, general radiographic rooms, portables, mammography, ultrasound, and supporting equipment. Interacts with department staff and management in assigned departments as needed to identify and reduce operator errors, equipment failures, down time, and costs. Performs service activities in a stressful environment and often on tight timeline

Qualifications :

Required : Meets one of the following :

  • Associate Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology or Electrical Engineering Technician
  • Completion of a Biomedical Engineering certification program.
  • Equivalent military training pertaining to Biomedical Engineering.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below. Meets one of the following :
  • 1-year experience in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of medical imaging equipment.
  • 2 years of verifiable experience as a Biomedical Engineer for a hospital or healthcare organization.
  • 4 years of verifiable experience as a Biomedical Engineer for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or as a Field Service Engineer in the medical equipment industry. Knowledge of all applicable codes, standards, regulations, and recommendations as promulgated by FDA, OSHA, NIOSH, TJC, ODOH, and other accrediting bodies of the System. Knowledge of and compliance with personal / patient protection guidelines for radiation exposure as specified in Radiology Safety Policy - ALARA, and possible exposures to ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, nitrous oxide, anesthetic agents, lasers, and ionizing radiation. Knowledge of all test equipment likely to be used in the calibration, verification, troubleshooting, and repair of specialized and complex diagnostic and therapeutic devices and systems. Knowledge of applicable local and federal regulations pertaining to diagnostic and therapeutic devices and systems. Possess a current, valid Driver's License for the State of Ohio. Possess strong written, verbal, and effective interpersonal communication skills. Strong technical acumen. Ability to think and work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to perform under stressful and / or difficult circumstances. Ability to work an on-call rotational schedule, including weekends and non-standard hours. Willing and able to be flexible and provide coverage based on operational needs. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred : Bachelor's Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology. CBET the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) or the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC) Experience in multiple specialty areas. Physical Requirements : May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance. Ability to push / pull up to 500 pounds with assistance. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
