The Metropolitan Water District's Water System Operations Group has three openings for Operations & Maintenance Technician IV-Fleet. These positions are located at Weymouth, La Verne, CA. This recruitment will be used to build an Eligibility List. This list will be valid for 6 months from the date a candidate accepts the position.

 

As an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Technician IV - Fleet, you will utilize journey-level automotive light, medium and heavy-duty equipment mechanical experience. You will be required to have journey-level experience in electrical systems, diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems, air brakes systems, ABS systems, manual standard and automatic transmission systems, emission systems, regulatory 90-day inspections, HVAC systems, suspensions and steering systems. Knowledge in the practices, procedures and methods of servicing and maintaining fleet related vehicles is also required. The ability to diagnose and repair complex computer related systems found in light, medium and heavy on-road, off-road and stationary equipment will also be required. Experience in maintaining and repairing mobile and stationary emergency generating equipment systems is part of the job duties. This includes gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Our fleet vehicles and equipment incorporate a variety of cars, sport utility vehicles, hybrids and alternative fuel pickups and trucks, on-road heavy duty tractor and trailers, backhoes, skip loaders, graders, bulldozers, tankers, cranes, excavators and other construction-related heavy equipment.

 

You will use a detailed Maintenance Management System (MMS) database necessary for work orders, inventory control, fuel management, service records, and regulatory entries. You will also support the operational core of water and power reliability by effectively maintaining, repairing, and improving the quality of fleet equipment and services for all core and supporting operations and maintenance functions, including shutdowns. You will provide and maintain fleet equipment reliability, quality, and efficiency through a mix of general and advanced predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance skills.Schedule: 4/10, Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pmThis position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, often requiring overnight stay in the project area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience: High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency in addition to a minimum of 6 years in an automotive and heavy equipment maintenance and repair position.ORHigh school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and attainment of journey level skills through a recognized automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance trade training program and/or applicable related experience within an industrial environment.Experience and knowledge as demonstrated by practical application of general and advanced techniques and practices specific to the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of automotive equipment including pumps, compressors, automotive, and heavy. Skills necessary include mechanical, hydraulics, electrical, welding, and computer/electronics, and handheld diagnostic systems.Relevant Experience is defined as: heavy equipment mechanical experience maintaining and repairing a variety of automotive and heavy equipment, and systems. Experience should also include gas, diesel and hybrid vehicles such as cars, sport utility vehicles, pickups and trucks of varied size and configurations, graders, stationary and portable generators, bulldozers, tractor-trailers, tankers, cranes and/or other construction-related heavy equipment.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTSEmployees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations: • Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A, B, and/or C with appropriate commercial license endorsements. o Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.o Must be able to obtain valid California Class A Driver’s license and medical certification with appropriate commercial license endorsements (Tanker & Hazmat, air brake and trailer endorsements)• Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in freon installation, automotive air conditioning and emissions (Including refrigerant recycling and service procedures)
