Hotel Operations Manager
Position Overview:
We are looking for a proactive and hands-on Operations Manager to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of two properties in Comfort, Texas. This role focuses heavily on housekeeping and facility maintenance, ensuring the property is well-maintained, clean, and operating efficiently. The ideal candidate will take a hands-on approach, often working directly with staff and performing tasks alongside them to ensure that all standards of cleanliness, guest comfort, and facility upkeep are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
Housekeeping Oversight and Involvement:
- Manage the housekeeping team, ensuring guest rooms, common areas, and hotel grounds are consistently clean and well-maintained.
- Inspect rooms and public spaces regularly to ensure cleanliness standards are met or exceeded.
- Assist the housekeeping team when necessary, including hands-on cleaning duties during busy periods or in the event of staffing shortages.
- Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and linens, ensuring that stock levels are sufficient and orders are placed on time.
- Develop cleaning schedules and checklists to ensure a thorough and systematic cleaning process.
Maintenance and Facility Management:
- Oversee all maintenance activities, ensuring the hotel property, equipment, and facilities are in good working order.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry) or coordinate with external contractors when needed.
- Conduct routine inspections of the property, identifying any issues related to wear and tear, safety hazards, or required upgrades.
- Ensure that hotel grounds, including outdoor areas, are clean, tidy, and well-maintained.
- Develop a preventive maintenance plan to minimize unexpected breakdowns and repair needs.
Guest Satisfaction and Service:
- Engage with guests to ensure their needs are met, promptly addressing any issues or requests.
- Respond to guest complaints or maintenance requests, personally attending to issues if necessary to ensure quick resolution.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead by example with a hands-on approach, working alongside housekeeping and maintenance staff when needed.
- Train and mentor team members in both housekeeping and maintenance best practices, ensuring high standards of performance.
- Create staff schedules that meet operational demands while staying within budget.
- Encourage a culture of teamwork, accountability, and attention to detail among staff members.
Budget and Inventory Control:
- Monitor operational expenses related to housekeeping and maintenance, ensuring spending aligns with the hotel’s budget.
- Optimize costs by ensuring efficient use of cleaning supplies, utilities, and materials, without compromising quality.
- Manage supplier relationships and negotiate cost-effective agreements for maintenance supplies and services.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Ensure all housekeeping and maintenance practices are in line with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in hotel or hospitality management with a strong emphasis on housekeeping and maintenance.
- Strong hands-on skills in facility management, with the ability to perform minor repairs.
- Ability to lead and inspire a small team through a hands-on approach.
- Knowledge of housekeeping best practices, cleaning techniques, and health and safety standards.
- Experience in budgeting, inventory management, and cost control.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and step in to perform tasks as needed.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience managing operations in a small or boutique hotel, especially in rural or remote locations.
- Experience performing minor maintenance tasks (landscaping, electrical, plumbing, HVAC) is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with rural property challenges, including limited resources and the need for self-sufficiency.
