Behavioral Healthcare Leadership Opportunity
Allegheny County is seeking a collaborative Director for its Office of Behavioral Health. This key position will oversee a $500 million budget and drive innovative care solutions, aiming to enhance services for the community's most vulnerable populations and make a meaningful impact on their lives. Reporting to the Director of the Department of Human Services (DHS), you’ll lead a team of 4 direct reports and 120 indirect reports, overseeing a comprehensive care system for individuals and families.
About the Role
This is a transformative time for the Department of Human Services (DHS), offering opportunities to improve the county's behavioral health system. Key initiatives include support for our recently launched crisis response program, the A-Team. This dedicated group of Behavioral Health First Responders is dispatched via 911 to address non-violent, non-medical emergencies in the community.
Additionally, the Director will focus on reducing the criminalization of mental health and substance use disorders, expanding housing and support services, improving provider diversity and service quality, and implementing a new team centered on Medicaid-funded programs. Your leadership will be essential in advancing these crucial initiatives for the community.
Key Responsibilities :
- Visionary Leadership : Provide direction for community-based behavioral health services, ensuring they are responsive to the needs of Allegheny County residents.
- Program Oversight : Plan, implement, and evaluate behavioral health programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and adherence to best practices.
- Fiscal Management : Manage a robust budget, strategically allocating resources to address community needs while ensuring fiscal accountability.
- Policy Advocacy : Champion policy initiatives aimed at enhancing mental health and substance use disorder services, working to drive systemic change.
- Partnership Development : Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders, including healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community organizations to promote integrated care.
- Stigma Reduction : Lead efforts to reduce stigma around mental health and substance use disorders, increasing public awareness of available resources.
- Team Development : Mentor and develop a diverse team of behavioral health professionals, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
- Continuous Improvement : Drive innovation in service delivery, focusing on client-centered approaches, accessibility, and outcomes measurement.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have :
A minimum of 6 years of progressive leadership experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder treatment, including three years in an administrative capacity in a health, behavioral health, or health and human services organization.
A proven track record of strategic planning, program management, and community engagement.
