Job Description:

MITRE’s Finance organization is seeking a Business Partner (BP) to serve as a Financial Advisor and Group Lead for the Center for Government Effectiveness and Modernization (CGEM) organization. This role will also serve as a Leader, Liaison and Integrator ensuring operational effectiveness, process improvement and consistency amongst a variety of cross functional efforts. As a Finance BP for Divisions in CGEM, you will serve as the primary source of day-to-day financial management and business decision support, playing a key part in the business operations functions that maximize MITRE’s value to our government sponsors. The Finance BP for CGEM is also responsible for driving collaboration across and within the broader finance communities to support MITRE’s business.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Set clear goals and expectations and providing regular feedback to drive team success.
    • Identify and nurture talent within the team, promoting professional growth and development opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Act as a liaison between departments, facilitating communication and collaboration to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
    • Lead cross-functional initiatives to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and improve overall operational performance.
    • Develop and implement strategies to promote a unified approach to problem-solving and decision-making across the various Finance Business Partner Departments
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Analyze current operational processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing innovative solutions to enhance productivity and quality.
    • Establish and maintain best practices, ensuring consistency and standardization, when possible, across all business units
    • Monitor key performance indicators and metrics to assess the effectiveness of process improvements and drive continuous optimization.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution:
    • Leads cross-finance initiatives (e.g., implementation of mission teams) at the direction of leadership, including engaging stakeholders across organizations, requirements gathering, solution development, socialization, implementation, and outcome tracking
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategic plans that align with the company’s vision and objectives.
    • Lead the development of business cases for new initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and resource allocation.
    • Drive change management efforts, ensuring smooth transitions and adoption of new processes and technologies.
  • Financial Management & Advisory:
    • The Finance Business Partner will serve as the trusted business partner with a CFO mindset for a specific customer organization, including being the single “face” for Finance to that customer.
      • Lead Finance functions supporting the organization, keeping a broad awareness of issues with program finance, invoicing, operations, and contracts affecting the customer.
      • Demonstrate the ability to solve issues from start to finish, collaborating across functional teams.
      • Develop a reputation as the chief problem solver for the customer, helping them work through complex issues throughout the Finance organization, or even center-level operations issues with financial drivers or outcomes.
      • Work with the broader Sector Finance team, Enterprise Business Systems & Operations, or other parts of the finance organization to highlight issues, brainstorm solutions, and drive implementations that meet the customers’ and the Finance organization’s needs.
      • Build and maintain a positive relationship with customer stakeholders, taking a fiduciary perspective towards work with the customer, prioritizing good financial outcomes for the customer and for MITRE.
      • Ensure strong operating financial controls and adherence to MITRE Finance policies within the customer organization.
    • Work with the customer to drive long-term planning, understanding business objectives from a sponsor impact and capability perspective, and helping align financial resources to support these desired outcomes.
      • For major investments, steer business case development, ensuring financial sustainability under various scenarios and opportunities to shift decisions if sponsor interest does not materialize.
    • Provide a framework and data to steer forecasting and target setting, ensuring realistic and accurate forecasts based on demand signals that minimize potential risk while maximizing the customer’s ability to deploy indirect resources.
      • Develop a strong understanding of opportunities and risks, using this knowledge to drive future forecasts, take action to insulate against risks between forecasts, and escalate potential concerns to Finance leadership.
      • Ensure the customer is actively engaged in understanding the current landscape of their awarded work while effectively driving necessary processes and policy to ensure completeness, consistency, and hygiene with regards to opportunity management.
      • Work with customers to develop annual indirect budgets based on the organization’s strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with the enterprise wrap rate strategy.
    • Provide regular and recurring management reporting and analysis, including key monthly artifacts such as monthly business reviews.
      • Analyze and diagnose business drivers and variances to budget using various financial systems.
      • Focus financial management reporting on lessons learned and prioritize recommendations for leadership actions.
      • Communicate financial results effectively with useful visual narratives, education on financial topics, and concise actions.
    • Support business transformation and process reengineering efforts, leveraging on-the-ground experience and relationships with stakeholders to drive requirements that meet business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Passion, energy, and enthusiasm in learning and applying through creative problem-solving.
  • Strong attention to detail; resourceful self-starter who executes commitments.
  • Mindset of continuous improvement with the capacity to drive change.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and influencing skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent work streams while maintaining high quality output.
  • US Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Deltek Cost Point, Tableau, and/or Cognos Analytics preferred.
