SUMMARY
The Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution at James Madison’s Montpelier is seeking to add a highly organized and detail-oriented Program Manager to the team to oversee key programs, including its immersive, multi-day professional development experiences for K-12 teachers. This Program Manager will organize and execute a number of impactful civic programs and is responsible for scheduling, logistics coordination, budget management, reporting and evaluation, and digital content creation. PAY RANGE: $46,000-$48,000
WORK OBJECTIVES
Based in the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution at James Madison’s Montpelier, the Program Manager plays a key role in planning and executing civic programs that connect audiences to the legacy of James Madison and the enduring relevance of the United States Constitution. The Program Manager oversees the Center for the Constitution’s Educator Seminars (immersive, multi-day professional development experiences for K-12 teachers) and develops other civic programs as assigned. Duties include overseeing all phases of program planning, implementation, evaluation, and financial management.
This position is responsible for coordinating key events and bookings for the Center for the Constitution. Other duties include promoting the Center for the Constitution on digital platforms, content creation and editing, posting, and maintenance of department social media channels.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program Planning and Execution: Design and oversee the delivery of Constitution-focused professional development programs.
- Develop program goals based on program results to date, audience attendance, funding availability, and formal evaluations.
- Conduct post-program evaluations to gather feedback, measure impact, and implement improvements for future programming.
- Collaborate with the Communications Department to increase visibility, attendance, and support for programs.
- Author reports (narrative and financial) on program impact.
- Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and manage program budgets to ensure financial responsibility while maintaining program quality.
- Ensure stated targets are met and author regular financial reports to Director and Assistant Director, Montpelier leadership, and program funders.
- Review and provide feedback on financial performance of programs and assess return on investment.
- Assist with grant writing, membership cultivation, and fundraising events as needed.
- Event Coordination: Coordinate with Events Department, Director, and Assistant Director to schedule, organize, and implement key civic events on behalf of the Center for the Constitution. Manage all aspects of event logistics from start to finish.
- Serve as the primary liaison for program participants, guest speakers, and vendors, providing clear and timely communication.
- Coordinate with and schedule Constitutional scholars and practitioners to participate in department programming.
- Digital Content Creation: Contribute to the Center for the Constitution’s digital presence by creating digital content to feature on social media channels and department websites.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) or equivalent work experience.
- Extensive experience in program management, public administration, and financial management.
- Excellent project management and planning skills.
- Interpersonal skills and professionalism are a must.
- Commitment to working occasional evenings and weekends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Valid VA driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR).
- Acceptable background check.
