Job Summary: The Deputy Director serves as a strategic partner to the Executive Director (ED), ensuring the alignment of operations, programs, and organizational strategy. This role combines Chief of Staff responsibilities—focusing on executive support, strategic planning, and internal communications—with Director of Operations responsibilities, ensuring efficient systems, resource management, and operational effectiveness. The Deputy Director plays a key leadership role in fostering a high-performance culture and driving organizational growth.
Duties/Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategy
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director, supporting decision-making and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison between the ED, staff, and key stakeholders to enhance internal and external communications.
- Oversee the implementation of strategic plans and ensure progress toward organizational goals.
- Represent the ED in meetings and engagements when necessary.
Supervisory & Staff Development
- Provide direct supervision to four direct reports, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular check-ins, and support professional development.
- Ensure staff have the necessary resources, training, and support to meet program objectives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Operational Oversight & Efficiency
- Lead day-to-day operational management, ensuring smooth coordination across departments.
- Develop and improve operational policies, processes, and procedures to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and funding requirements.
- Manage organizational risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
Program & Performance Management
- Work with program directors to ensure successful implementation and impact of organizational initiatives.
- Oversee program evaluations, ensuring alignment with The Moore Wright Group’s mission and funding requirements.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to enhance program effectiveness and service delivery.
Financial & Resource Management
- Assist in developing and monitoring the annual budget in collaboration with the ED and finance team.
- Ensure operational cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality service delivery.
- Identify funding opportunities and support grant and contract compliance.
Team Development & Culture Building
- Promote a collaborative, mission-driven culture among staff.
- Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
- Foster an inclusive, equitable, and supportive work environment.

Education and Experience

- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, operations, or executive support roles.
- Experience in staff supervision, budgeting, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with nonprofit funding structures, grant management, and compliance requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel as needed for meetings, events, and site visits.
