The Morgan Oliver School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead Camp Counselor for our summer camp program. This role involves leading engaging and educational camp activities for children ages 5-12, including a variety of exciting themes such as cooking, arts, nature exploration, and teamwork development. The Lead Camp Counselor will supervise and guide a team of counselors, ensuring that each camper has a meaningful, fun, and safe summer experience. This position requires a commitment to either the full summer program or one of our two camp sessions.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise and Lead: Lead a group of campers through a diverse set of activities. Ensure the campers are actively engaged and having fun while promoting teamwork, creativity, and learning.
- Camp Themes: Our summer camp program will include various exciting themes such as:
- Cultural Culinary Adventures: Where children explore international cuisines and cooking methods.
- Exploring Nature: Outdoor exploration, environmental education, and games that connect children to nature.
- Art in Action: Art and creativity-based projects, including group murals, recycled art, and individual crafts.
- Teamwork and Leadership: Activities focused on building leadership skills, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- STEM Exploration: Fun and hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, and math, encouraging children to experiment and problem solve.
- Camp Team Leadership: Manage and support a team of camp counselors, delegating tasks and ensuring the activities run smoothly. Act as a mentor for junior staff and foster a collaborative and fun environment.
- Safety and Well-being: Prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of all campers. Ensure that the camp environment is safe and secure, and that appropriate safety protocols are followed, especially during cooking and outdoor activities.
- Parent Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for parents about their child’s camp experience. Communicate regularly about their child’s progress, activities, and any important updates.
- Camp Operations: Help with camp setup, maintaining clean and organized spaces for all activities. Ensure all materials and supplies are stocked and available for each day’s activities.
- Behavior Management: Use positive behavior management techniques to ensure a respectful and productive environment for both campers and staff. Promote a culture of kindness, inclusion, and collaboration.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children in a camp, educational, or recreational setting is preferred.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to engage children in meaningful activities and foster a positive, inclusive camp environment.
- Commitment: Must be available for the entire camp duration from June 9 – August 1, 2024.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred but not required. (Training will be provided if necessary.)
- Physical Requirements: Ability to participate in physical activities and lead outdoor games, cooking, and arts/crafts activities.
