General
The Assistant Superintendent helps to manage and execute day-to-day field operations in accordance with established budgets, schedules, plans and specifications, contract documents, procedures, and company standards while supporting the Superintendent.
Duties & Responsibilities
Project Execution, Monitoring, and Close Out
- Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
- Monitor work performance and productivity of subcontractors to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, etc. are maintained
- Advise superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.; assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required
- Maintain liaison with other departments, i.e., Project Manager, engineering, accounting, etc. as required to support construction schedule
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction
Materials and Equipment
- Work with the Superintendent to ensure timely receipt of all needed materials and equipment to avoid work delays
- Coordinate to ensure subcontractors have the needed requirements to proceed
- Ensure that all material testing requirements (such as steel and concrete tests) are fulfilled and records properly maintained
- Assist in coordinating and scheduling of all required inspections
- Verify that material and equipment being installed matches the approved submittal and fills out specification verification form
- Ensure areas are provided for storage of equipment and materials and that items delivered to the jobsite are proper for the job and properly stored or protected to prevent theft or damage
- Maintain trailers and project sites in a safe, clean, and orderly fashion
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a trade (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive attitude and a desire to learn about project management
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
