The Morton Arboretum is a world-renowned nonprofit dedicated to protecting and growing trees locally and globally. We are seeking an experienced Salesforce and database administrator to join our team to develop and support our database systems that meet the strategic needs of the Arboretum. The ideal candidate will develop and support the business processes with the data and information flow between Arboretum systems and support all business functions including philanthropy, Membership, Special Events, and Education programs and help preserve our plant collections across 1,700 acres using technology effectively. 

Position Summary: Lead the ongoing development and improvement, as well as day-to-day configuration, support, and maintenance of the Arboretum’s Salesforce Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system and other database applications and systems. Work collaboratively with leaders of various departments and functions, as well as subject matter experts to identify, develop, and deploy new business processes. Serve as an administrator, technical project manager, and analyst. Provide application and integration support and maintenance to actively meet business needs. 


Essential Functions: 

  • Serve as the primary Salesforce CRM system administrator. Integrate Salesforce with third-party applications; ensure integrity of data integrations and manipulations. Develop and maintain custom objects, fields, formulas, validation rules, workflows, and page layouts. Responsible for batch uploads, exports and updates of data. 

  • Work closely with subject matter experts across the Arboretum to identify, develop, deploy, and evaluate CRM processes. Develop suitable processes to support administrative, development, and change management activities. 

  • Leverage data-driven insights to advise on audience segmentation and personalized communications across digital channels.

  • Maintain SQL server databases; design and maintain SQL reports in response to user needs.

  • Analyze and understand organizational business processes and requirements to recommend appropriate database solutions used and maintained by The Morton Arboretum. Implement solutions based on the department's business needs.

  • Analyze data and develop reports, dashboards, and processes to support business operations. 

  • Respond to and resolve database access, security, and performance issues. Complete regular internal system audits and prepare and implement software upgrades.  

  • Evaluate and test new products and software applications under development.

  • Train new users to help grow the Salesforce skill set across the organization.

  • Ensure that external consultants understand the Arboretum’s configuration and deliver a satisfactory product by providing functional and technical requirements, and maintaining the integrity and security of the data.

  • Demonstrate alignment with the Arboretum’s employee core values.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent required. 3 years relevant work experience required, in a nonprofit organization working with a fundraising team. Salesforce experience required, with Sales Cloud and Developer certification preferred. Technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting database and application servers, including MSSQL and MySQL servers. Advanced SQL administration skills strongly preferred. Pardot Marketing Automation experience (or an equivalent marketing automation platform) preferred. Project management experience preferred with experience in improving processes and adoption of technology platforms to achieve successful outcomes. Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Strong understanding of Salesforce best practices and functionality, with the ability to build custom apps and objects, formula fields, workflows, custom views, and other content of intermediate complexity. Versatile with a combination of database and systems skills. Highly self-motivated, directed, with keen attention to detail. Ability to develop, retain, and interpret technical documentation for training and end-user procedures. Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Customer service-oriented individual with excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Knowledge of trends in technology relating to database and software applications. Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Work Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors, in an office setting, although travel within the Arboretum is occasionally required. 

  • Equipment:  General office equipment, computer hardware, software, network hardware.

  • Schedule:  Position may require occasional evening and weekend hours.

The expected hiring range for this exempt position is annualized at $87,000 -$97,000 based on experience that will be evaluated during the candidate selection process. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of the final offer. This position is also eligible for a competitive benefits package.
