School Counselor The Mountain School of Milton Academy seeks a School Counselor for the 2025-26 academic year. The Mountain School is a semester-long, residential academic program for high school juniors set on four hundred acres in central Vermont. Each fall and spring semester, 45 students from across the country join our campus where they take academic classes, participate in our farm and outdoor programs, and build a diverse and interdependent community of scholars. Counseling Responsibilities •Provide short-term counseling for students; assist with problem-solving regarding academic and social-emotional issues as they arise. •Mediate conflict between students. •Assist teachers with resources to support classroom engagement and relationship building. •Confer as needed with external health professionals serving students and act as the liaison between them and the School. •Provide timely and consistent communication with parents/caregivers and participate in parent meetings/communication as needed. •Provide families with referral information when needed. •Provide consultation for families in a culturally responsive and aware manner. •Maintain appropriate records of counseling sessions and ensure compliance with relevant privacy and ethical guidelines. Administrative Responsibilities: •Create, track & revise systems and structures that support student development & learning. •Create and implement professional development for faculty regarding developmental and social-emotional issues. •Create, revise, and review school practices, protocols, and policies that enhance student health and safety. •Meet with and help to lead the Student Support Team weekly. Qualifications: •A master’s degree in counseling, school counseling, social work, or a related field •Demonstrated ability to connect with students and use various counseling techniques specific to school counseling. •Skills in constructive communication and collaboration with staff and administrators •Ability to organize, plan and implement tasks independently •Discretion and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality •Commitment to working in, and working to create, a welcoming, inclusive, antiracist community with a desire to continue personal growth in anti-bias and trauma-informed education •Ability to maintain a sense of humor and positive outlook and foster a positive work environment. Salary and Benefits: The salary range for a full-time position is $65,000 to $80,000 depending on experience. This position comes with benefits that include health, dental, and a housing stipend. The School Counselor follows the academic-year schedule. Based on the wishes of the ideal candidate combined with the needs of the school, we would also consider a part-time role and/or possible flexibility to be 4 days a week in-person and one day remote for admin work.
