Shifts run between 7:15am to 6:15pm
Scheduled Shifts: 7:00am - 3:00pm / 7:30am - 3:30pm / 10:15am - 6:15pm

Summary
The Aerospace Camp Experience (ACE) Counselor supports The Museum of Flight and its Aerospace Camp Experience (ACE) by assisting with the oversight of one unit of day camp (10 to 20 children) in this engaging STEM focused program. ACE Counselors are an integral part in engaging, instructing, and supervising ACE campers and supporting the smooth operations of ACE programming. This position is responsible for creating a safe, fun, and educational camp environment and providing excellent customer service to a diverse ACE clientele.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Assist the assigned ACE Lead Counselor with the direction, development, supervision, and organization of campers.
- Lead or assist with the teaching of camp activities. Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Work to ensure a safe, fun, and educational environment for campers.
- Support campers emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
- Follow all ACE and Museum policies and procedures including those related to health and safety, medical and disciplinary situations, emergency procedures, and child abuse prevention. Bring all personnel and safety issues to the Lead Counselor or ACE Manager for oversight and employment related actions.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of all equipment and supplies, ensuring camp materials and supplies are prepared for camp sessions.
- May occasionally substitute as Lead Counselor for short periods of time when necessary.
- Assist with the supervision and organization of campers during camp care sessions that are conducted prior to and after regular camp programming.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
- One (1) year experience in structured youth education programming. Prior experience in camp, classroom, experiential, or informal education preferred.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of STEM subjects, such as aviation, astronomy, robotics, and/or aerospace preferred.
Skills
- Proven effective interpersonal skills including verbal and basic written communication skills.
- Competent planning and organizational skills.
Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people including staff, campers, parents, and volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple and competing tasks and plan work activities efficiently.
- Ability to make solid decisions quickly under pressure and comfortable leading and directing camp staff and camp participants in a respectful and professional manner.
License & Certification
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification, or may be obtained prior to first day of camp through the provided Museum certification training or other.

- The schedule for this position will be determined by the Supervisor. Primary seasonal work schedule is Monday through Friday from approximately 7:30am - 3:30pm. Summer hours will be finalized at regular staff meetings.

- Able to work in an active camp environment within the public space of a busy museum.
- The ability to bend, carry, reach, overhead and to the side, push, pull, focus, walk, stand, twist and squat are occasional requirements in a normal camp environment.
- Must be able to be physically active for the duration of a shift.
- Onsite attendance is essential to perform the duties of this position.
- Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Oversight of minors; 18 years of age is highly preferred.

Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is between $22.00 - $23.00 per hour depending on experience.
