What are the responsibilities and job description for the Voice Instructor position at The Music Settlement?
Primary purpose:
The Voice Instructor advances and supports the mission of The Music Settlement through the following actions:
- Inspiring and encouraging students on their paths of musical growth.
- Imparting a sound pedagogy derived from education and experience.
- Compliance with The Music Settlement’s policies regarding attendance, communication, and reporting.
Classification: Part Time (under 30 hours per week)
Reports to: Chair, Center for Music and the Department Head, Voice
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Inspiring and encouraging students on their paths of musical growth.
- Encourage individual student progress and foster growth of studio.
- Identify musical goals of the students and identify specific student needs.
- Imparting a sound pedagogy derived from education and experience.
- Encourage students to participate in ensembles at The Music Settlement.
- Encourage students to audition for Music Settlement scholarships.
- Have students participate in at least one Music Settlement recital per year.
- Compliance with The Music Settlement’s policies.
- Maintain communication with students and, if applicable, parents/guardians.
- Keep accurate records of progress of students.
- Enter attendance in a timely fashion.
- Attend mandatory all-organization meeting and necessary training sessions.
- Be punctual to all lessons, rehearsals, and meetings.
- Comply with The Music Settlement’s system of communication and regularly check TMS issued email at least once a week.
- Teaching may take place at either the University Circle or the Ohio City campus, or both.
The Voice Instructor will be evaluated upon the following criteria:
- Retention of students and measurable increased enrollment in studio.
- Regularly checking and appropriately responding to communication from The Music Settlement: email and voicemail.
- Student involvement in Music Settlement recitals, events, scholarship auditions, and ensembles (if applicable).
- Volunteer at least once per school year in a TMS recruitment or outreach activity.
Educational requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in music (or related field) required, Master’s preferred.
Qualifications: Previous experience in private teaching is desired. Hourly rate will be based upon level of education and teaching experience.
The Voice Instructor must personally adhere to all established personnel policies and practices of The Music Settlement. As a member of the administrative staff, this individual must encourage a respectful, healthy, and productive work environment for all employees, volunteers, customers, and clients.
