You will develop and employ practices that will ensure sound claim investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement by establishing claims' policies and guidelines.
Accountabilities
- Develops, recommends and implements plans, policies and programs for claims management activities to assure compliance with state and federal law.
- Manages from inception to conclusion any and all commercial line of business claims.
- Manages the settlement of all claims and suits within area of responsibility.
- Drives technical excellence, manages productivity, and conducts open file reviews.
- Manages reserve process to ensure reserve adequacy.
- Oversees counsel in the handling of litigated cases.
- Reviews and analyzes claims trends on distinct books of business and provides support in the analysis and adjudication of eligibility and coverage.
- Ensure the claim Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are measured and monitored and provide overall direction to ensure quality, time service and productivity goals are met.
- Maintains current knowledge of all insurance lines, current claim guidelines, and policy changes and modifications.
- Provides advice, counsel, and training to Claims Managers and Representatives at all levels.
- Develop leadership skills of Claims Managers and develop staff to respond to department needs, as well as assisting the Claims staff with career development goals.
- Responsible for the management team members including performance, management, salary planning, training, disciplinary action, and hiring and placement.
- Interacts with other underwriting, product development and legal to share information and to maintain a consistent approach to resolve problems.
- Prepares annual budget and manages expense levels with Finance team.
- Assures the implementation and maintenance of best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- CPCU certification or other designation is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise and ability to use complex concepts, practices and procedures within the claims and management fields.
- Knowledge of computer and software (Claims specific and Office Suite).
- Ability to analyze and compare data to formulate and prepare budgets, long range goals, and reports.
- Strong leadership traits, confident decision-making skills and effectively facilitate presentations, meetings and committees.
- Ability to convey clear, concise information to others, using verbal or other appropriate communication techniques.
- Decisive.
- Ability to compose written correspondence and factual reports which are well-organized and concise, utilizing proper English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Advanced mathematical calculations/problems (formulas, percentages, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Demonstrates leadership experience and presentation skills.
- In-depth knowledge of structural components, building codes, NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) rules and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office. Formulate and prepare complex reports, spreadsheets and budgets using Excel and Access programs. Design PowerPoint presentations.
- Limited travel is required.
