What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Executive (Communications/PR Manager) position at The Narrative Project?
About The Narrative Project:
The Narrative Project is Connecticut’s only anti-racist communications agency, focused on equity, oriented to justice, and dedicated to providing high-quality public relations and full-service communications for mission-driven organizations. Through collaborative communications consulting, The Narrative Project helps emerging and established mission-driven organizations reach their diverse publics, build their image, further their mission, and achieve their goals.
We don’t have clients at The Narrative Project. We have partners.
Traditional consulting relationships are far too transactional. As a work-for-hire relationship, they don’t require the consultant to be mission-aligned or values-based; they don’t necessitate developing a true relationship between the client and consultant; and they lend themselves to the mistreatment of the consultant or a lack of work/life balance resulting in burnout. We seek to change this.
At The Narrative Project, we’re zealots for the missions we serve. We call the organizations we support Partners, not clients, because 1) we work exclusively with mission-aligned organizations, 2) we take a collaborative approach to communications management, and 3) we expect our partners to adhere to our core values of community care when working with our team.
Job Description:
Our Account Executives are the lifeblood of our work. The right candidate will bring a combination of expertise in communications, a passion for social justice, the ability to implement The Narrative Project’s anti-racist and collaborative approach to public relations, and an interest in working in a startup environment to our team.
As an Account Executive, you may serve as the primary point of contact for up to seven accounts, lending your consulting expertise to establish, guide, and make progress toward the visionary goals of our partners. You may also serve as a secondary contact for other accounts. Your core responsibilities will include developing and implementing communications plans and social media campaigns for partners, (ranging from shorter month-long campaigns to longer multi-year projects); anticipating, managing, and prioritizing partner needs; and utilizing earned, owned, paid, and social media to create innovative content that helps our partners tell their stories and magnify their impact. Account Executives ensure that TNP is a value add, adding capacity to make the work easier for our partners.
Successful Account Executives imbed themselves within the team cultures of our partners. They bring a constant stream of industry insight and recommendations to the table, all the while delivering on tactics. They work collaboratively with partners to ensure a “nothing about you without you” approach to consulting. Account Executives get the work done by leading and delegating tasks to a 4-person work stream, composed of other Account Executives and a social lead who manages social media and graphic design. They may also collaborate with other team members on website development, photography, videography, and content production. They ensure that TNP is accurately measuring, tracking, and reporting on progress made towards goals to project partners (externally), and to TNP senior leadership (internally). Account Executives are responsible for partner satisfaction and collaborate with talent from across the company to deliver our full menu of services.
Account Executives are discretionary thinkers with exceptional people skills, a proven track record of effective people management, and a desire and capacity to learn. They lend their industry insight to our startup culture by embracing change as a constant and supporting company growth by working with senior leadership to identify and act on room for improvement. They represent the best interests of TNP in staff meetings and are a respected company ambassador in external meetings. They are leaders who can take direction and are willing to shift, adapt, and follow through. To be successful in this role, you must possess a commitment to continuous improvement, an ability to receive coaching and feedback, and a dedication to creativity in the pursuit of justice and equity.
