About The National Mental Health Corps:
The National Mental Health Corps is a nationwide effort to tackle the mental health crisis by training everyday people to recognize, respond to, and support those facing mental health challenges. We’re transitioning from our former name, Healthy Minds Alliance, to The National Mental Health Corps to better reflect our growing impact.
What You’ll Do:
As an AmeriCorps Member in this role, you’ll teach mental health certification courses to community members. Your job is to empower people with the skills to help others, build connections, and spread awareness about mental health. You will be working within the Corbin Independent Schools district, helping students, teachers, and community members access important mental health training.
Please note- There is no prior training required for this position! You will be trained in an evidence-based mental health program as part of your AmeriCorps service term!
Your Responsibilities:
- Get trained as an instructor for evidence-based mental health programs (Date & Location TBD).
- Lead mental health certification courses in your community.
- Reach out to local organizations, community leaders, and the public to promote training sessions.
- Spread the word through social media, press releases, and community events.
- Track and report participant progress through evaluations.
- Partner with mental health organizations and serve as a resource for participants.
- Keep participant information private and respect confidentiality.
- Advocate for mental health by sharing what you learn and teaching others.
- Help with grant writing to support mental health initiatives.
- Join AmeriCorps national service projects and monthly calls.
- Support your host site’s mental health programs and events.
What We’re Looking For:
- Personal or professional experience with mental health.
- Comfortable leading a class or training adults.
- Familiar with mental health issues and resources.
- Able to engage and support diverse groups.
- Passionate about breaking the stigma around mental health.
- Great communication and outreach skills.
Program Details & Perks:
- 10-month AmeriCorps commitment (exact dates depend on the host site).
- Full-time position: 1,700 service hours (about 40 hours/week).
- Includes 5 holidays and 2.5 personal days.
- Living stipend: $21,000 (paid biweekly over 22 checks).
- Education Award of $7,395 when you finish the program.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
