Job Description
Provide financial management support to the Chief Financial Officer and other laboratory business leaders, program managers, project managers, and other NREL staff. Work within a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) organization closely collaborating with other financial analysts and managers in other groups to solve complex financial planning, programming, budgeting, and execution tasks, as well as improve institutional processes.
Job duties will include, but are not limited to :
Budget Formulation and Planning :
- Support the annual NREL financial planning process by partnering with NREL program, project and center leaders to formulate financial estimates.
- Support Program and Project Managers with the formulation of funding requirements and affordability analysis of Projects within the Facilities and Operations Directorate
- Provide analysis and financial guidance to Program and Project Managers through the life cycle of projects.
- Work with the contracting team to ensure the negotiated payment schedule will support the projects or programs cash flow needs.
- Monitor and evaluate reasonableness and accuracy of financial plans in EPM and coordinate needed updates.
- Identify financial risks, issues and needed actions to leaders.
- Project / Budget Execution :
- Develop monthly financial performance reports for assigned programs, projects, and centers.
- Perform plan to actual variance analyses and discuss issues and necessary actions with applicable leaders.
- Communicate financial planning requirements and deadlines to all customers.

Professional II Level :
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education / experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education / experience.
Professional III Level :
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education / experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education / experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education / experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education / experience.
