The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion is seeking a dynamic and faith-driven Director of Communications to lead our efforts in sharing the inspiring message of Our Lady of Champion with the world. This is more than a job—it’s a calling to use your creativity, leadership, and strategic vision to bring awareness to Our Lady, engage with the faithful, and grow the National Shrine’s presence as a place of prayer and pilgrimage.
This full-time (40 hours per week) position is responsible for all communication activities related to creating awareness and growing the number of the Shrine pilgrim visitors. This includes promotion through all channels of print and digital media, major event coordination, public relations coordination and media relations.

Responsibilities

- Help create and then execute the strategic, tactical and budget plan for all Shrine marketing and communication efforts.
- Coordinate all print communication activities, including but not limited to advertisements, articles, newsletter, constituent email communication, on-site communication activities and press releases
- Coordinate all digital media communication activities, including but not limited to website, social media, radio/tv advertisement and Shrine originated content.
- Maintain relationships with outside marketing vendors and contractors
- Manage and grow Shrine contact lists
- Develop and manage relationships with media contacts to generate local, regional and national media coverage working in concert with Diocesan Communications Department; Respond to external inquiries for media requests and coordinate action
- Maintain close coordination and communication with the Shrine Rector, COO, pilgrimage planning, operations and development teams
- Coordinate with other staff for event support as needed.
- Collaborate with Shrine Gift Shop to create Shrine specific items and goods.
- Employees are expected to attend retreats, seminars and small group discussions where faith is discussed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
K: Knowledge
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher; emphasis in marketing, public relations, mass communications or journalism
- Five to seven years’ experience in marketing, communications, public relations, communications, or journalism required
- Knowledge of and belief in Catholic Church teachings and events surrounding the apparitions in
- Champion, WI
- Previous interaction with news media preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s license

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to plan, execute, measure results and adjust plan as needed
- Proficient in event management, promotion and marketing methods
- Strong graphic design skills and understanding of various design software such as Adobe Suite and Canva
- Understanding of website management, including the maintenance of websites and incorporating SEO best practices
- Strong writing skills, especially for digital and print formats
- Proficient in social media management, posting, audience engagement across multiple platforms.
