The National WWII Museum is currently seeking an Engineer - Second Class. Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Engineer - Second Class position performs a variety of work in the Central Plant and repair of the Museum’s buildings, facilities, and equipment. The Engineer position works with other Facilities staff to ensure that the Museum’s spaces are Maintained and safe for visitors, employees and guests.

Description
The National WWII Museum is currently seeking an Engineer - Second Class. Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, the Engineer - Second Class position performs a variety of work in the Central Plant and repair of the Museum’s buildings, facilities, and equipment. The Engineer position works with other Facilities staff to ensure that the Museum’s spaces are Maintained and safe for visitors, employees and guests.
Requirements
- Operate and maintain equipment in the Central Plant, keep logs, utilize automation system, and complete work orders generated through CMMS. (Computerized Maintenance Software)
- Clean Central Plant and restroom facility.
- Perform general maintenance and repair of the Museum’s buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds.
- Perform a variety of maintenance work; including HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazier, masonry, and painting tasks.
- Repair and treat structures such as floors, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets.
- Perform minor troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments of locks on doors, cabinets, desks, closets; repairs door hinges; cleans plugged key slots.
- Change filters on heating, ventilating and air conditioning units
- Report mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action.
- Move and assist in moving furniture and equipment at various facilities/sites.
- Exercise discretion in identifying projects requiring the services of a higher skilled crafts person.
- Assist in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors as needed.
- Annotate and update work logs for specific site requirements.
- Activate and deactivate building alarms and respond to alarm calls during and after regular work hours.
- Maintain clean, safe, and orderly work sites.
- Assume the responsibility of working the shift or finding an engineer that will in the event of a call off.
- Must possess a current City Of New Orleans 2nd Class Stationary Engineer’s License with Air Conditioning Certification. A 2nd Class Boiler is preferred as well.
- Must be available and willing to work all shifts as needed.
- Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.
- Knowledge of the methods used in maintenance including basic knowledge of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, glass replacement, painting, masonry, grounds keeping, appliance repair, and electrical wiring.
- Knowledge of standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities.
- Effectively use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Operate a forklift.
- Read blueprints.
- Review and identify projects needed to be serviced by outside contractors
- Follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
