The Program Director fosters a culture of learning and partnership, and co-develops, manages, and advances marine conservation programs, strategies, plans and methods for Hawaiʻi Island, providing technical leadership while directing and implementing conservation programs.The Program Director works across sectors in partnership with local and Hawaiian communities, cultural practitioners, fishers, government agencies, researchers, businesses and the conservation community to advance enduring results. They facilitate and inform conservation and community planning processes and develop and implement conservation strategies to improve marine resource management and secure public and private support for TNC and partner conservation priorities.The Program Director works with their team and partners to develop practical applications of scientific concepts, technical innovations, and traditional and place-based ecological knowledge for conservation gains, and coordinates with the statewide marine science team to implement the highest priority on-island research activities. The Program Director negotiates complex and innovative solutions, frequent travels domestically and / or internationally, and works evening and weekend hours. We’re looking for someone who is a passionate, motivated problem-solver.WHAT YOU'LL BRING BA / BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience working with coastal and marine ecosystems and local and Hawaiian cultural and management practices in Hawaiʻi, including experience with communities and partners and demonstrated understanding of how to navigate and work with sensitivity to cultural norms for successful results.Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and / or government agencies.Experience negotiating.WHAT WE BRING Since 1951, TNC has been doing work you can believe in. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA.
