Position Summary

This position is part of an expanding Data Science and Data Product team with the mission to discover, inspire, and engage fans worldwide. The Data Product Manager - Analytics Engineering will be primarily responsible for the technical management and growth of the NBA's fan data platform. The Data Product Manager will additionally be responsible for managing partner contracts, optimizing workflow efficiencies, prioritizing inbound data requests, reducing work in progress, and ensuring projects meet deadlines. The Data Product Manager - Analytics Engineering will work to streamline data and information flows for NBA team fan data, NBA League Pass, nationally televised games, email marketing, in-app marketing, and other Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) initiatives. Successful candidates will have experience as a hands-on analytics engineer and a product manager of data-intensive projects in a matrixed environment. The ideal candidate will learn the ins and outs of the fan and team data ecosystem and operate as the Point Guard for all team-based fan data tasksknowing who to pass the ball to and scoring points when the path is clear.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible for data collection and processing for core lines of business and will collaborate with various data scientists, instrumentation experts, and engineering teams to identify requirements that will derive the creation of data pipelines.
  • Design and implement scalable, extensible, and highly available data pipelines on large volume data sets, enabling actionable insights, strategy, and ML workloads for the organization.
  • Responsible for leading a team of external data and analytics engineers to ensure best-in-class processes and deliverables supporting your Data Science, Insight, & Strategy partner organization across the entire data journey from Descriptive to
  • Predictive with key responsibilities for pipeline creation, reporting, and data visualization across the commercial business.
  • Provide coverage on ad-hoc data and analysis from diverse partners and automate those needs over time.
  • Document and implement best dbt practices. Conduct code reviews and highlight opportunities to use advanced dbt features (macros, incremental jobs, etc.) to keep code clean and readable.
  • Drive requirements for data infrastructure and engineering teams to build data integrations, robust tools, and infrastructure.
  • Convert requirements into Jira stories and provide milestones.
  • Enable a culture of innovation by staying up to date with the latest Analytics Engineering trends / emerging technologies and looking for opportunities to improve the data tech stack.

Required Education / Professional Experience

  • Degree in one of the preferred fields : engineering, economics, statistics, computer science, or related quantitative field.
  • 6 Years of demonstrated experience working as a data engineer or analytics engineer
  • 2 years of experience managing analytics engineering or data engineering teams
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies (Snowflake, Azure, etc.)
  • Experience leading data QA Experience in Azure DevOps, Jira, Asana, or other PM software
  • Expert-level experience with DBT
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git
  • Required Skills / Knowledge Attributes

  • Demonstrated experience in leading large, complex projects with multi-function team members
  • Fluent in building data transformation pipelines, dimensional models, and data marts using one or more ETL or Transformation tools (Preferred : dbt)
  • Proven track record explaining complex analyses and outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent critical thinking with creative solutions to overcome challenges and meet business requirements
  • Strong collaborator who can work effectively within a matrixed organization to influence and drive results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into simple and intuitive communications
  • Salary Range : $150,000 - $175,000
