Maintenance Employee
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; overtime may be required
Compensation: D.O.E. --- Range per Regional Competitive Wage Per Hour
REPORTS TO:
Maintenance Manager, or designate
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Maintain a production facility and its equipment, buildings, and land. The job involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing structures and production equipment including, but not limited to, machinery, pumps, compressors, hydraulics, plumbing, tanks, electrical, etc., maintaining the facility yards, and participating in all projects as assigned.
MAIN JOB TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Test, troubleshoot updates and diagnose malfunctions or failure of manufacturing, mechanical, electrical and operational equipment and facilities in general using precision instruments and practical evaluative knowledge.
- Perform maintenance and cleaning to keep equipment, work areas, grounds, and facilities clean and safe.
- Operate a variety of maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Read, interpret, and understand technical manuals, blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
- Make necessary modifications to equipment and facilities for maximum production performance and safety compliance.
- Adapt to changing technologies and learn the functionality of new equipment and systems.
- Identify, participate in, and accurately document preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment, machinery, and related facilities.
- Make simple to complex independent decisions.
- Operate snow removal equipment.
- Understand and operate forklifts, cranes, power tools, and equipment to access, move, repair, install, and maintain equipment, facilities, and systems.
- Perform routine mechanical, electrical, or machining maintenance activities on equipment including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts; order and maintain stock levels of lubricants used in plant equipment.
- Ensure adequate supplies for routine maintenance are on hand.
- Maintain User manuals for all equipment and keep records of where purchased.
- Schedule all maintenance with the production manager as needed.
- Ensure training has been completed on any operating equipment.
- Find, hire, work closely, and communicate appropriately with all contractors.
- Other tasks and duties as required by the plant manager
- May be required to learn production tasks or to assist in production
TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Walk, stand, reach, stoop, and sit to access equipment, using feet, legs, and hands to inspect, adjust, diagnose, and repair it.
- Reach and grasp hand tools and other objects requiring manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Talk and listen to others to exchange and obtain information.
- Lift and carry tools, equipment, supplies, and other objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Climb ladders, walk on, near, or in areas requiring manual strength to maintain body equilibrium to balance and prevent falling.
- Visually inspect a diversity of equipment, components, facilities, mechanical and electrical equipment requiring close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
- Work in outside weather conditions, exposed to varying internal & external temperatures.
- May be exposed to heat, moving machinery, loud noise levels on occasion and other hazards while engaging in job tasks and assignments.
- Tolerate dust and chemicals present throughout the physical plant.
Job Requirements:
1) Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under Nelson motor vehicle insurance policies
2) Must have the ability to travel to business and customer locations by motor vehicle, plane, train, or other necessary means for day, overnight, weekly, or other extended trips that may include crossing US/Canada borders, as and when required, with minimal notice, possibly in inclement weather.
3) Lift and move 50 pounds repeatedly
4) Able to work regularly scheduled hours, as well as some weekends, holidays, and nights
5) Work around chemicals and dust
6) Be able to discern all colors
7) Able to stand for long periods of time
8) Bend, twist and lift regularly throughout the day
9) Medically and psychologically capable of wearing a respirator
10) Able to climb ladders
11) Work in a safe manner, follow all safety regulations, and bring up new safety measures as needed
12) Able to get certified to operate a forklift safely
13) Able to speak, read and write in English
14) Employees must pass a pre-placement physical and functional capacity test and respirator fit test at Nelson expense.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
A minimum of High School, GED or Vocational Education is required; additional technical education certification is desirable
Experience:
Any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities
