IT Academy Instructor Part-Time

Job Corps Centers Region 3

Overview:

The IT Academy Instructor will facilitate the delivery of a cutting-edge, hybrid learning program designed to prepare young adults for careers in information technology.

Instructors will guide students through the IT Academy curriculum, which includes web-based lessons, hands-on projects, and bi-weekly student presentations. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment, supporting students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles.

The instructor must be adaptable and capable of quickly learning new technologies and incorporating modern instructional methods. Additionally, the role involves providing technical troubleshooting support to students, ensuring smooth use of tools such as the Learning Management System (LMS), virtual machine environments, and coding platforms.

The instructor will employ emotional intelligence, conceptual learning, and practical applications, to help students not only achieve IT certifications but also develop the durable skills necessary for long-term career success.

Job Description:

Facilitate Learning:

  • Lead a hybrid, flipped-classroom model where students engage in self-paced online modules with in-person support for discussion and projects.
  • Foster learner agency by encouraging students to take ownership of their learning journey, supporting them as they develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ensure the learning environment is inclusive and accessible for students with diverse needs and learning styles.
  • Facilitate group discussions and bi-weekly student presentations to reinforce learning and ensure engagement.
  • Apply the Team MindShift Way to ensure students master both technical and durable skills.

:Provide Tutoring, Support, and Troubleshooting

  • Offer personalized tutoring and feedback to help students understand course material, navigate challenges, and complete projects.
  • Monitor student progress through the Learning Management System (LMS), providing guidance and intervention as needed to keep students on track.
  • Support students in preparing for industry-recognized certifications, including

CompTIA A , Data , and DataSys .

  • Assist students with technical troubleshooting, resolving issues related to the LMS, virtual machine environments, and coding platforms.
  • Act as a mediator in student discussions when challenges or conflicts arise, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.

Assess Student Progress:

  • Evaluate student performance through project-based assessments, quizzes, and bi-weekly presentations.
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching to ensure that students are continuously improving and building the confidence to succeed.

Engage with Wellness and Reflection:

  • Encourage student participation in the program’s mindfulness and wellness activities, including journaling and self-reflection.
  • Support students’ personal and emotional development as part of the holistic learning experience.
  • Utilize conflict resolution strategies when necessary to help students manage interpersonal challenges.

Qualifications:

Technical Expertise

  • 5 years of industry experience in a relevant IT role
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Database Administration, Networking, Software Development, or related IT fields a plus
  • Experience with web-based teaching platforms and tools (e.g., LMS, virtual machine environments, coding platforms).
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to online tools, such as virtual machines, coding platforms, and the LMS.
  • Familiarity with CompTIA certifications or similar industry-recognized credentials is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must

Teaching and Facilitation Skills:

  • Passion for teaching, mentoring, and fostering a positive learning environment
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring in an academic or professional setting.
  • Ability to guide students through self-paced learning while facilitating group discussions and supporting project-based assessments.
  • Familiarity with flipped classrooms or hybrid learning models.
  • The ability to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment that accommodates diverse learning styles, and encourages trust, empowerment, and resilience among students.
  • Experience conducting training sessions that are inclusive and responsive to diverse cultural backgrounds, incorporating strategies that resonate with students from varied racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic communities. Ability to address cultural differences, biases, and systemic challenges that impact learners in the Southeast and Atlanta regions.
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies and instructional methods as required.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning to keep pace with the rapidly changing IT landscape.

Conflict Resolution and Mediation Skills:

  • Strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to mediate discussions and resolve interpersonal challenges among students.
  • Experience working with students in developing emotional intelligence and navigating challenges collaboratively.
  • Strong emphasis on recognizing and adjusting to the unique emotional and mental health needs of Job Corps participants.

Working Conditions:

  • The position is primarily based on Job Corps Centers, with a mix of in-person and online teaching.
  • This is a part-time position – 20-29 hours/week. Flexible hours may be required to accommodate rolling enrollment and student progress.
  • Instructors must be available for all required JC Instructor meetings or counseling groups.
  • Instructors must ensure that all Job Corp training requirements are met within a specified timeframe.
  • Instructors will have access to ongoing support and professional development through the IT Academy and coalition partners.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
