What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Manager position at The New Children's Museum?
DESCRIPTION:
Facility Manager at The New Children’s Museum ensures Museum Guests and Staff experience a safe and fully functional environment while they visit the Museum and the surrounding outdoor areas. The Facility Manager’s role is to observe and react intuitively and quickly, constantly modeling a respectable presence. This position will be the primary point of contact for contractors who service all aspects of the building as well as interacting with art installation designers and installers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position reports to the Director of Facilities for all duties and with an emphasis towards safety, operational and security needs.
- Responsible for maintaining employee information in the Museum’s Siemens SiPass Access Control System.
- Be familiar with the closed circuit TV and fire alarm systems.
- Responsible for coordinating annual active shooter training and conducting quarterly emergency evacuation drills.
- Lead the safety committee.
- Be familiar with the basic building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
- Work closely with San Diego’s Clean & Safe program and SDPD RSVP volunteers to proactively manage the homeless issue in our park.
- Supervise security staff of 2-3 part time guards.
- Supervise custodial and maintenancne staff of 4-5 technicians.
- Support with hiring, training and performance reviews of all facilities personnel.
- Oversee evening special events security (approx. 50 events per year).
- Respond to evacuations or emergency situations, both outside and inside the Museum.
- Document incidents and injuries that occur within the Museum footprint and provide first aid as needed.
- Deter undesirable activity outside of the building by providing a firm and respectful presence and/or by contacting other authorities and needed.
- Make periodic rounds of the Museum Floor, appropriately reacting to visitor and staff safety needs and/or communicating installation integrity needs.
- Maintain a constant awareness of Museum rules, procedures and policies while modeling impeccable level of integrity for our visitors, staff, vendors and all other guests.
- Assist with facility operational requirements in relation to building systems.
- Learn about and be prepared to accurately communicate Museum pricing and hours as well as information about Museum artworks, artists and events.
- Assist with load outs/ins as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent, post High School work preferred
- 5 years of security experience or other relatable experience
- 2 years staffing/scheduling and supervisor experience
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and make quick decisions.
- Ability to self-motivate and remain on-task without immediate supervision
- Ability to interact effectively and compassionately with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Compensation: The salary for this position is $68,000. This is a full-time, regular, exempt position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The majority of this work is performed in the busy Downtown, Museum environment with constant ambient noise at moderate levels and requires observance of safe work practices, fire regulations, and avoidance of falls, trips, and similar office work hazards. A portion of this position does require outdoor exposure to elements. Due to the nature of the position, weekend and holiday hours will be required.
