Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Planning and Coordination
- Lead the engineering efforts in planning, designing, and executing capital projects.
- Develop detailed project schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mill operations, contractors, and vendors, to ensure effective project execution.
- Ensure project alignment with regulatory compliance, safety standards, and environmental laws
- Leadership and Team Management
- Direct, manage, and mentor a team of engineers, allocate tasks effectively to match team capabilities and project requirements, ensuring high performance and technical expertise.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and encourage professional growth within the engineering team.
- Maintain a collaborative environment that fosters innovation and problem-solving in complex mill operations.
- Technical Oversight and Engineering Solutions
- Provide oversight and guidance on engineering designs, focusing on pulp and paper mill processes, power generation systems, and recovery boiler operations.
- Ensure technical designs and solutions comply with industry standards, and best practices.
- Manage the resolution of complex engineering challenges, ensuring solutions are cost-effective and operationally sound.
- Approve engineering drawings, specifications, and system integration designs for both construction and operational phases.
- Developing 5-Year Capital Plan
- Work closely with the mill leadership team to lead a comprehensive 5-year capital plan.
- Align capital expenditures with long-term operational goals, focusing on improving reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure the capital plan integrates with mill objectives and aligns with maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and maximize operational continuity.
- Budgeting and Cost Management
- Develop and manage engineering budgets, ensuring all costs are within financial constraints.
- Monitor expenditures and resource allocations for capital projects, identifying opportunities for cost savings while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Provide senior management with regular financial updates, cost analysis, and risk assessments to ensure effective project execution.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the primary engineering liaison for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Deliver regular updates on project status, key milestones, risks, and challenges, ensuring transparent and efficient communication.
- Ensure that all project documentation, including engineering reports, compliance reports, and safety protocols, is delivered accurately and on time.
- Construction and Site Management
- Provide technical oversight during the construction and commissioning phases
- Ensure adherence to engineering specifications, safety standards, and quality control measures on-site.
- Conduct site inspections, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure project timelines are met without compromising safety or technical performance.
Skills & Qualifications
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or Pulp and Paper Engineering.
- Experience: Proven experience in engineering management within the pulp and paper industry. Knowledge of recovery boiler operations, and power generation systems is preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of pulp and power systems, including recovery boiler construction, mill power generation, and boiler operation is preferred. Functional use of Microsoft Office, Lotus, and Maintenance Management systems, In-depth understanding of ASME codes (especially related to pressure vessels and boilers) and welding procedures is preferred.
- Project Management: Experience managing medium – large scale capital projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating resources effectively.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams, with strong interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Compliance and Safety: Deep understanding of safety regulations, environmental laws, and industry-specific compliance standards.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively report to management and coordinate with external contractors, regulatory bodies, and vendors. Demonstrated ability to balance priorities that meet short and long-term objectives; uses organized and efficient work methods.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- A Professional Engineer license is preferred.
