What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Assistant position at The New Interdisciplinary school (NIS)?
The Classroom Assistant is assigned to one child per the Individualized Education Program (IEP). The assistant is responsible for the care and safety of the child as well as assisting the teacher in implementing the IEP goals for the assigned child. ABA and RBT experience a plus!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the teacher in carrying out IEP goals for the assigned child.
- Assists with activities daily for the assigned child using universal precautions.
- Maintains a positive relationship with the administration, staff and parents.
- Assists the teacher in providing comfortable transitions for the child.
- Assists in maintaining an emotionally comfortable learning environment filled with warmth and caring by understanding the needs of the child.
- Attends training sessions conducted by the school.
- Adheres to all school policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be capable of lifting a child weighing 45 pounds at least five times per day
