NSM is approved as an independent school by the Vermont State Board of Education to provide general and special education services to students, ages 5-22 in grades K-12 in the disability categories of Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impairment, Emotional Disturbance, Speech or Language Impairment, Developmental Delay, Multiple Disabilities, and Traumatic Brain Injury. Additionally, NSM operates a program for adult alumni with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Position: The Director of Education and Instruction is responsible for leading the development and implementation of curriculum that meets the individual needs of special education students, with a strong emphasis on remediating skill deficits and maintaining continuity with performance-based standards. This role ensures that both general and special education instruction are of high quality, data-driven, and aligned with federal and state regulations to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for all students. In addition to instructional leadership, the Director oversees the professional growth of all staff—supporting the development of new team members while fostering ongoing professional development for experienced educators and staff across all roles.
Key areas of responsibility include:
1. Development and coordination across school programs.
2.Cross-functional collaboration to maintain educational excellence
3.Ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal special education guidelines
Qualifications: 5 years experience as a teacher or administrator for students with significant challenges or equivalent experience. Must be licensed in at least one of the following areas; Special Educator, Educational Speech Language Pathologist, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Director of Special Education, School Principal, School Administrator, Superintendent, Director of Curriculum, or Intensive Special Education Teacher.
Compensation & Benefits: This is a full-time position, with an annual salary starting at $85,000 with final
