Job Summary :
The Assistant Head of Lower School works in coordination with the Head of Lower School in providing daily oversight for all programs within Lower School (Grades Kg-5) and is responsible for assisting in leadership and administration of the Lower School division.
Duties / Responsibilities :
Oversee Extended Day Program, Summer Camp and Transportation (9 : 30am - 5 : 30 pm work schedule)
Collaborate with administrative team in further development of K-5 program
Collaborate with Head of Lower School to administer discipline system and coordinate parent communication and / or meetings when necessary
Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy
Understands the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of elementary aged students, and responds to students’ needs appropriately
Provides SEL support for students, as deemed necessary by Head of Lower School and K-12 Counselor
Assist in managing K-5 staff and schedules
Assist with supply and curriculum orders for K-5 teachers, students, and classrooms
Assist in maintaining records and attendance for all faculty / staff meetings and / or professional development trainings
Assist with new hire interviews and reference checks
Assist in the planning, scheduling, and supervision of K-5 student events / activities
Monitors teaching and learning as directed by Head of Lower School (including observing classroom instruction, modeling instruction for faculty / staff, and analyzing student learning data)
Participates in Lower School improvement planning and implementation
Assists in leading professional development opportunities for K-5 faculty / staff
Serves as Division Head in absence of Head of Lower School
Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the administration
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Elementary Education
Preferred : An equivalent of three years of experience teaching at the K-5 level, preferably in a independent school setting
A demonstrated eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Able to learn relevant technology and use learning management systems
An interest in and commitment to being a full member of the community
