We’re the New Terminal One (NTO) at John F. Kennedy International Airport, a bold and exciting project to develop a world class, international terminal that can serve as a global gateway to the New York metropolitan area and the greater United States. The $9 billion first phase is the largest single asset project financing in US history.


It will be built on sites now occupied by Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the former Terminal 3, where it will anchor JFK’s south side. Construction will take place in phases, with the first phase, including the new arrivals and departures hall and first set of new gates, expected to open in 2026.


NTO will set a new standard for design and service and aspires to obtain a global Top 5 Skytrax rating as one of the finest ten airport terminals in the world.

Who You Are:

The Director of Government Relations and Community Affairs will lead The New Terminal One's efforts to build and maintain relationships with government officials, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders. This role involves advocating for the company's interests, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and fostering positive community relations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a passion for community development, strong communication skills, and a proven track record in government and public relations.


What You Will Do:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Government Relations: Develop and implement strategies to engage with government officials and regulatory agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders and government entities.
  • Regulatory Navigation: Assist in navigating regulatory landscapes to support necessary permits and compliance.
  • Advocacy and Risk Mitigation: Engage in advocacy efforts, identify potential risks related to community relations and public perception, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Policy Promotion: Promote policies and regulations favorable to NTO and the airport terminal management sector.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for policies and regulations that support the company's goals and objectives.
  • Compliance: Ensure the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations, and monitor legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Strategy Development: Assist in the creation and execution of community engagement strategies that promote economic opportunities, job creation, and skills development.
  • Non-Profit Collaboration: Work with non-profit organizations to develop and implement programs addressing community needs including the hiring of local residents for employment jobs at NTO.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Coordinate with strategic business partners to align their workforce development strategies with local employment opportunities.
  • Public Affairs: Represent the company at public meetings, hearings, and events to promote its interests and initiatives.
  • Communication:
  • Along with the Communication Director, support, development and dissemination information about the company's government relations and community affairs activities to internal and external audiences.
  • Support public affairs and external communications with media, government officials, and regulatory bodies.
  • Partnerships: Identify and cultivate partnerships with community organizations and other stakeholders to support the company's community engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, local governments, non-profits, and community organizations to facilitate access for local, disadvantaged, and minority-owned businesses.
  • Governance:
  • Impact Measurement: Assist in initiatives to measure, maximize, and report on the social and economic impact of NTO’s projects.
  • Reporting: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of community investment strategies, providing data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Sustainability Support: Support initiatives related to sustainability practices and corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts.
  • Crisis Management: Along with the Communication Director, support management and response to community and government-related crises in a timely and effective manner.


Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of government processes and regulatory environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Leadership skills to inspire and drive initiatives within the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.


Where You Will Work:

We are located in Building 111 in Jamacia Queens. As NTO progresses towards its operational phase, your role will transition to the vibrant and dynamic environment of JFK International Airport, where you will be directly involved in the day-to-day activities of this state-of-the-art international terminal.


This role requires a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge and/or a Secure Worker Access Consortium (SWAC) which will be obtained and maintained throughout employment. Successful candidates will be subject to a background check and other security clearance procedures. Candidates who cannot obtain and maintain this credential will not be considered for employment.

Salary : $148,000 - $180,000
