The Assistant Vice President (AVP) will be responsible for overseeing and expanding The Foundling’s active portfolio of city, state, and federal government contracts, and all private foundation grant proposals. The AVP of Institutional Giving will report to the Chief Advancement Officer. The AVP will oversee a team and as well as contract grant writers and consultants on an as-needed basis.

 

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000/year

 

Responsibilities

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) will be responsible for overseeing and expanding The Foundling’s active portfolio of city, state, and federal government contracts, and all private foundation grant proposals. The AVP of Institutional Giving will report to the Chief Advancement Officer. The AVP will oversee a team and as well as contract grant writers and consultants on an as-needed basis.

This position will also work collaboratively with senior managers in Programs, Finance, and Quality Assurance to make decisions on program fundraising priorities in the agency. This position requires a well-defined knowledge base and experience in child welfare and social services field, as well as a minimum of five years grant writing experience, exceptional writing and organizational skills, ability to learn quickly on the job, and strong interpersonal skills for working with the government sector and private funders and administrative and program staff. The candidate should possess the ability to manage projects and staff independently, set priorities, and take initiative as well as work as part of a cohesive senior level team.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Chief Advancement Officer, and in collaboration with other senior level managers, prepare and oversee the preparation of proposals, reports, letters, and budgets for funders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Lead the strategic effort around building out the base of institutional support, including: prospecting and management of the discovery process, pipeline reporting, proposal writing and tracking, maintaining close coordination with impact programs staff to develop opportunities for support and engagement, and effective and prompt reporting to donors.
  • Strong proposal writing skills for a variety of funders, including traditional foundations, government, and corporate funders. Ability to understand, interpret, and synthesize complex programmatic information.
  • Create tracking mechanism for public and private contracts (including the type of contract, funding amount, type of funding, contract terms, and required follow up reports to funder) and maintain files, both electronically and in hard copy, for each approved contract.
  • Assume lead in the Requests for Proposals (RFPs) assessment process at The Foundling, including the identification of opportunities for program expansion, facilitating and guiding the deliberative process around growth initiatives, and supporting senior leadership in setting and meeting strategic goals and priorities for growth.
  • Collaborate with The Foundling’s Finance and Program departments to identify underfunded programs and guide institutional giving team strategy on sustainability planning and resource solicitation for program areas that are underfunded.
  • Supports the government relations strategy.
  • Attend pre-proposal conference sessions, site visits and other events related to the RFP process.
  • Actively participate in meetings related to RFP initiatives, program development, and service expansion.
  • Oversee the maintenance of an accurate grants calendar, tracking grant deliverables, and timelines for public and private grant making entities.
  • Oversee the management and updating of the agency-wide program services compendium.
  • Oversee the management of NYF’s HHS Accelerator, Passport, and Grants Gateway accounts and attend and disseminate information gained from related forums and conferences.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000/year

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience: 

  • Experience and strong understanding of the Child Welfare and not for profit Social Services fields.
  • Three years experience in grant writing and related contract management responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisor experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to interact successfully with program staff.
  • Ability to learn quickly on the job and synthesize complex themes in writing.
  • Attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to initiate projects and ideas.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Ability to set priorities and perform under deadlines and changing schedules.
  • Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet platforms, and database experience required.
  • Energetic, positive and enthusiastic worker with a deep commitment to the goals of the organization.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.

Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution
