Community Programming Associate
Team: Programs and Membership
Reports To: Manager of Community Programming, Downstate
Employment Status: Full Time/Non-Exempt (40 hours/ week). 4 days in the office, 1 day remote.
Salary: $55,620
Location: This position is based in our headquarters in New York City, with occasional travel to regional offices across NY State. This position is mostly on-site, with a requirement of being in the office 4 days per week and remote 1 day per week.

Position Description
Under the Manager of Community Programming, Downstate, the Associate will help plan and execute events designed to provide services to immigrant communities in close partnership with NYIC member and partner organizations. The Associate will plan and engage in community outreach, liaise with partner organizations, and ensure that event logistics run smoothly. In addition, the Associate will play a supporting role in legal clinics, community education efforts, and coordination among service partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Support logistical needs of multiple monthly resource fair events and legal clinics, including advance planning, performing vendor research and selection, purchasing resources, staffing events, and troubleshooting to address any challenges that may occur.
- Coordinate with partners, including staff of NYIC member organizations, legal service providers, financial literacy educators, and social service providers to facilitate their participation in events.
- Work closely with staff in other NYIC programs on community outreach to create event flyers, develop outreach strategies, and publicize events.
- Maintain detailed reports and data on events, including numbers of individuals served and resources distributed, while following strict protocols for any personally identifying information.
- Prepare materials for distribution to partner organizations and for community members.
- Represent the NYIC at community events and/or provide community members and partners with referrals to local service providers and resources
- This position regularly requires carrying and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualities Sought
- A minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in event planning for community-focused events, or community outreach a must.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant-serving and immigrant-led organizations.
- Experience with community education and workshops focusing on health access, public benefits enrollment, financial literacy, and/or entrepreneurship is an asset.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, take the initiative, and manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure.
- Meticulous organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects, and follow through on detail with high-level accuracy and attention
- Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be a team player and able to adapt as necessary to changing circumstances
- Knowledge of and commitment to social justice and immigrant justice
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50lbs.
- This position will be required to work some weekends and evenings as necessary. Additionally, there may be regular local travel within New York City to all five (5) boroughs and travel within New York State.
- Language fluency in Spanish or French is strongly preferred. Knowledge of Chinese, Korean, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Russian, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, or other language(s) spoken in New York State would also be an asset.
Salary: $55,620
