Job Overview

Essential Functions
- Ensures that mobile units are correctly powered with assistance from NYRA electrician team
- Responsible for all wiring and connectivity within broadcast trailers, between broadcast trailers and from broadcast trailers to the rest of the facility.
- Connects outputs from control rooms to various transmission sources.
- Works with vendors to ensure transmission and reception is fully functional.
- Accountable for all equipment within broadcast trailers and their successful operation, including switchers, routers, monitor walls, audio boards, camera control units, video storage and playback and graphics machines.
- Oversees the engineering staff of video, audio and digital engineers to ensure all aspects of the broadcast environment are functioning properly.
- Schedules engineering staff so that all events are properly covered.
- Maintains equipment throughout the infrastructure, ensuring that all software and upgrades are up to date.
- Ultimately responsible for all camera function and setup, including robotic cameras.
- Works closely with racing regulators (stewards & judges) to ensure that all video and camera feeds needed are functional.
- Responsible for setup and strike of all broadcast equipment when moving between live race meets.
- Ensures that on-air talent sets are properly functional, including, cameras, lighting, desk placement, microphones, IFBs, return monitors and lighting.
- Responsible for routing all incoming feeds needed for broadcast.
- Controls all outgoing feeds and ensures they are hitting the correct destinations without any audio or video degradation.
- Works closely with third-party vendors to ensure all data, equipment, transmission is functional.
- Schedules preventative maintenance on systems and equipment within the broadcast environment.
- Identifies technical issues and works to resolve them as quickly and completely as possible.
- Diagnoses any equipment problems and decides whether items can be repaired in-house, need to be sent for repair, or replaced altogether.
- Ensures general maintenance on broadcast trailer fleet is up-to-date including electrical, HVAC, roadworthiness.
- Reports any major issues immediately to Sr. Director of TV Broadcast Operations.
- Ensures all remote sets and broadcast locations are properly functioning.
- Assist, as needed, operators in the broadcast control rooms and camera operators with equipment functionality and training.
- Monitors employees and equipment for any safety concerns and addresses those concerns immediately.
- Monitors evolving technology to ensure broadcasts remain cutting-edge.
- Works ahead to ensure any scheduling of equipment delivery is timely for upcoming events.
- Performs repairs on equipment as needed.
- Ability to make wires, connectors, adapters, etc.
- Ensures all fiberoptic feeds within each facility are functional. Regularly inspects connections, checking for damage from animals, water, operator error, etc.
- Works closely with Facilities and IT teams to ensure other departments and TV are able to assist each other as needed.
- Demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities.
- Comfortable working with fiber.
Minimum Requirements:
- 10 Years of experience as an engineer for mobile broadcast units.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
- Work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced live broadcast environment.
- Certified in various systems including DANTE, Fiber tech.
- Expert level understanding of video, audio, and graphics systems in TV environment
- Strong knowledge of signal flow and wiring.
- Advanced skills in maintaining and troubleshooting switchers, routers, cameras, graphics equipment, multi-viewers and computer networking.
