Vice President, Strategic Partnerships

The New York Times
New York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 3/4/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/29/2025
The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

About The Role

Management of our partner platform strategy is critical to the ongoing success of The New York Times. Off-platform channels — social, search, aggregators — are major contributors to The Times audience and are critical tools for helping us find new readers and deepen engagement with existing readers. The increasing dominance of the major platforms, over people’s time, engagement, and information discovery have fundamentally changed our work and business. The Platforms team manages these dynamics—specifically, our content experiences and relationships on these platforms—to support our revenue and journalistic goals. We are keenly focused on ensuring the New York Times has the right partnership structures, strategies and practices in place to increase our presence and relations with these platforms.

The Times is looking for a VP of Strategic Partnerships to support our Platforms Strategy and Partnership teams.

You will report to the SVP, Chief of Staff Office of the CEO and you will be based in our New York City HQ office. This is an individual contributor role.

Responsibilities

  • You will develop and manage relationships with the largest tech companies and other strategic platforms to advance The New York Times’ business objectives
  • You will be a key architect and collaborator on complex deals that span multiple parts of the business including IP licensing, subscriptions, product integrations and advertising, developing deal frameworks, financial analysis, negotiation strategies, and execution plans.
  • You will work with NYT newsrooms and product teams to support content distribution strategies and opportunities
  • You will manage relationships between The Times executives and strategic partners
  • You will monitor industry trends, platform and tech developments and present executive-level communications about them
  • You will grow relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and participate in meetings with senior executives at The Times and at the platforms
  • Be able to engage in lateral leadership and drive results from cross-functional teams
  • Prepare executive briefing materials and facilitate meetings with internal stakeholders and develop detailed communications strategies for internal stakeholders that the entire team implements
  • You will participate in industry conversations, representing the NYT perspective
  • Develop and host high-impact thought leadership events to elevate the company's industry presence, foster strategic relationships, and position the organization as a key voice in the evolving media and technology landscape
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
  • In this role you will report to the Sr VP, Chief of Staff, to the CEO.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15 years experience digital media publishing, digital product development with understanding of news media, social platforms, and Generative AI technologies and their markets
  • Proven track record of executing deals from start to finish — including sourcing deals, building deal frameworks, opportunity analysis, contracting, and execution
  • Excellent operational skills to drive cross-functional work and execute strategies
  • Deep interest, understanding, and attention to market developments
  • Experience leveraging a network of industry relationships to unlock new partnership opportunities and strategic initiatives
