What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Elementary School Teacher position at The Newgrange School?
The Special Education Elementary School Teacher will report to the Principal and will complete but is not limited to the following duties :
- Assuming responsibility for the instruction of assigned students in the designated subject matter area by New Jersey Core Curriculum content standards and the school.
- Consulting with various levels of administrative staff, learning consultants, students, parents, and others as necessary.
- Remaining current with new developments in subject matter content, teaching methods, instructional strategies, educational technology, and educational research in assigned areas.
- Working with the educational team where the teacher will establish instructional objectives for each student that are consistent with the school's mission, philosophy, and vision.
- Presenting and explaining learning materials and educating students on new subjects.
- Communicating their subject matter by using lectures, and printed, visual, audio, and / or video materials.
- Educating the class and ensuring success, maintaining a positive attitude, being energetic about the subjects they teach, and sharing a passion for learning themselves.
- Developing lesson plans and materials, adapting curriculum, and planning a program of study to meet the individuals' needs, interests, diversified skill sets, and abilities of each student.
- Establishing standards of student behavior and maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner to achieve a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Assessing on an ongoing basis the accomplishments of students, maintaining student records, attending IEP as well as all other meetings, and providing progress reports as required.
