Worksite Location: Hood River

Work Schedule: Full Time; 35 - 40 hours per week

Wage Range: $22.91 - $25.16 per hour

Bilingual Differential Pay: $0.50 per hour worked

Reports to: Healthy Families Program Supervisor

Who we are looking for?

The Family Support Specialist supports parents with infants and young children, prenatal through 3yrs (sometimes longer), to give their babies the best possible start in life. Visits are one-on-one, usually in the family’s home, and use a strengths-based, family-centered, relationship-focused approach. The Family Support Specialist empowers and encourages parents to bond with their babies, understand their child’s development and needs, increase awareness of health and safety topics, set and achieve goals of their choosing, and build a strong and healthy support network.

What you will do…

• Initiate and maintain regular, long-term contact and support with families, primarily through visits in families’ homes.
• Build trusting relationships with families to promote healthy childhood growth and development and enhance family well-being.
• Support parent-infant attachment and parent’s understanding of their child’s growth and development through interventions that are family-centered and strength-based.
• Introduce and encourage age-appropriate parent-child activities, health and safety topics, utilizing curriculum, and other evidence-based information and activities.
• Partner with parents to set goals of their choosing and create plans to accomplish these goals.
• Help parents connect with other supportive programs and needed resources.
• Establish case plans with goals, objectives, and activities to meet individual families’ needs based on their initial assessment and subsequent disclosures.
• Prepare curriculum, activities, referrals, etc. for upcoming family visits.
• Record weekly family observations, activities, and demographic data as required, maintaining a case file for each family.
• Participate in 1.5-2 hours per week of reflective supervision.
• Attend staff meetings, team meetings, training, and other meetings as required.
• Participate in special projects as assigned by Healthy Families Supervisor or Family Services Manager.

Education, Experience, and Requirements …

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with auto liability insurance
• Strong computer software skills
• Ability to communicate clearly by telephone, email and other written documents
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background check

Preferred:

• College coursework, AA, or BA
• Infant Mental Health endorsement
• Experience providing services to children and families with culturally diverse backgrounds.
